Disney Forced Into Rare Move as Heat Warning Causes Multiple Ride Closures
Extreme temperatures are creating unexpected challenges for Disney parks.
Summer weather can bring millions of guests to Disney theme parks, but soaring temperatures are now forcing operators to make unusual adjustments across attractions, entertainment, and guest experiences.

Heat warnings have affected multiple Disney destinations this week, with conditions creating difficult operating environments for both guests and Cast Members.
While Disney parks regularly prepare for changing weather, extreme heat can create additional challenges that go beyond guest comfort ā especially if the AC stops working, as it did at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge this week.
At Walt Disney World Resort, several days this week have been affected by heat advisories, with the heat index expected to reach as high as 111 degrees Fahrenheit. The Florida resort has also faced storm risks, with Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and other Disney World parks placed under a Marginal Risk for Severe Storms on June 19.
The National Weather Service warned of potential wind gusts, hail, heavy rainfall, and a minor tornado risk as severe weather moved through the region.
Extreme Heat Brings Changes to Disney Entertainment
The impact of the heat has also been felt at another major Disney destination, where unusually high temperatures have led to operational changes.
Disneyland Paris has been dealing with a severe high temperature warning as parts of France experienced temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The conditions are especially notable because the average June high in Paris is around 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Temperatures at the resort are expected to climb even further, with forecasts predicting highs of 104 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday. In response, Disney has adjusted some outdoor entertainment offerings to help manage the effects of the heat.
Disney Stars on Parade operated in an adapted format, with all costumed characters removed except Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Olaf. Some outdoor character meet-and-greets were also changed, with face characters replacing costumed performers.
The changes come as Disney continues to balance maintaining guest experiences with safety concerns during extreme weather conditions. Outdoor performers, attractions, and experiences can all face additional challenges when temperatures reach unusually high levels.
Multiple Disney Rides Close During Heat Warning
The biggest disruption came from attractions, with several rides experiencing temporary closures during the heat warning.

At Disneyland Paris, attractions including Indiana Jones et le Temple du PƩril, Le Pays des Contes de FƩes, Autopia, Disneyland Railroad, and Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain faced unexpected closures. The attractions affected are either fully or partially outdoors, with some ride systems exposed to higher temperatures.
Extreme heat can affect the operation of certain attractions because high temperatures may impact ride systems, sensors, safety checks, and other technical equipment. Outdoor attractions can be particularly vulnerable when exposed to prolonged periods of intense heat.
Ride closures caused by weather conditions are not unusual at theme parks, but widespread shutdowns during extreme temperatures remain a rare disruption for Disney guests. Attractions are designed with extensive safety systems, and temporary closures can occur when conditions fall outside normal operating expectations.
As heat warnings continue across parts of the world, Disney parks are expected to keep monitoring conditions and adjusting operations where necessary. Guests visiting during extreme weather are advised to prepare for changing attraction availability and possible entertainment modifications.
