Disney World is no stranger to expansion, building new attractions, updating rides, etc. Disney attractions tend to close from time to time for much-needed refurbishment. Just recently, Splash Mountain closed permanently to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which will open in “late 2024” at Magic Kingdom Park.

In a social media post, A Disney World Guest talks about their trip to Disney and how they noticed a popular Disney attraction is going downhill. Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid is a fan-favorite. Sadly, many fans have said that this attraction is in need of refurbishment. During their ride on the longstanding Magic Kingdom ride, the Dinsey Guest noticed several animatronics were not working, and they are worried that Disney will end up replacing this attraction.

“I just got back from my two-day trip to Disney yesterday. When I was there, I noticed the Little Mermaid attraction was slowly going downhill. Some animatronics weren’t working or becoming stiffer due to age. Most notable is the first Ariel when she sings, “Part of your world.” I feel like Disney will continue to neglect this ride and others like they have until a new attraction is announced to take its place. I only say that because I don’t think new animatronics will cause the attraction to become more popular, but it would just bring a loss to Disney and won’t draw in more people. Does anyone else feel this way? Little Mermaid is a staple of my Disney trips, and I would hate to lose it.”

There have been fears that Under the Sea- Journey of The Little Mermaid could be on its way out in the future, but it wouldn’t seem to be likely at least for the next few years. Disney is already working on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and the company has teased a major expansion, titled “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” It seems more likely that the Fantasyland attraction will undergo refurbishment at some point, but there’s no indication that it will be closing down permanently.

While Disney World Cast Members do their best to keep the Parks clean and running smoothly, attractions from time to time may experience delays, errors, or even shut down for improvements.
