On October 25, 2024, Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested in Custer County for driving under the influence (DUI) and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
The incident occurred shortly after 6:47 a.m. when a sheriff’s deputy discovered Bryan sleeping in the backseat of his parked Range Rover. After observing Bryan, the deputy briefly left the scene, but later saw him driving the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, during which Bryan openly admitted to being intoxicated.
This arrest marked Bryan’s second DUI this year.

The dashcam footage from the arrest has drawn attention due to Bryan’s unapologetic demeanor. During his interaction with law enforcement, he made sarcastic remarks, notably stating, “I’m sorry I like to drink.” His flippant attitude and apparent disregard for the seriousness of the situation were evident as he insisted that he was a “good dude” even while being processed for DUI.
When asked where he was on a scale of sobriety, Bryan responded that he considered himself a five out of ten, further illuminating his lack of awareness regarding the circumstances.
The officer who was sitting with Bryan told the actor there was no judgment, but they could not let him continue to put people at risk by driving while intoxicated.
“You have zero judgment from me. Here’s the deal, I got you for driving under the influence. It’s a safety deal. If we were just to leave you there and we’re not going to know if you’re going to stay there or drive away. Like you’ve said yourself, you’re not safe to drive, but we deal with public safety.”
The officer then informed Mr. Bryan of the Implied Consent law and told him he would be required to take a breathalyzer test. However, Bryan declined to submit to the breathalyzer. He did agree to take a field sobriety test, which he reportedly failed, providing further evidence that he was intoxicated and shouldn’t have been driving.

Zachery Ty Bryan’s legal woes extend beyond this latest arrest. In February 2024, he was apprehended in La Quinta, California, under similar circumstances, marking his first DUI arrest of the year.
At that time, he faced additional charges, including contempt of court, which led to altered legal repercussions given his prior DUI convictions. Bryan’s ongoing pattern of behavior suggests a troubling trajectory, as this current arrest for DUI is classified as a “second felony offense.”
Following his first 2024 DUI, charges escalated to a felony due to his three prior convictions within the past decade.
In addition to his DUI offenses, Zachery Ty Bryan has a documented history of domestic violence incidents. He was arrested in July 2023 and faced charges including fourth-degree assault and robbery following a domestic dispute with a partner.
This was not his first encounter with the law regarding domestic violence; Bryan had a prior incident in 2020, where he faced similar charges related to an altercation with a former girlfriend.
In the 2023 case, he pleaded guilty and received a notably lenient sentence, serving only seven days in jail.
