We are just a few weeks away from the opening of Walt Disney World Resort’s newest roller coaster — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The roller coaster will open at EPCOT in the World Discovery section of the theme park, taking the place of what was once Ellen’s Energy Adventure. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the first roller-coaster to open at EPCOT and will be the first roller coaster Disney has created that features an exciting reverse launch.
As with the opening of other highly anticipated attractions — like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — the opening of Cosmic Rewind is expected to draw big crowds. Guests are even reporting that all EPCOT passes are booked for that day, May 27. In an effort to help control the masses that will want to ride the new attraction, Disney has shared that there will be no standby queue for Cosmic Rewind. Instead, a virtual queue will be instituted.
The news was shared by theme park insider, Scott Gustin:
NEW: When Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT opens, a virtual queue will be in place. A regular standby queue will not be available.
Individual Lightning Lane will also be offered.

This is not the first time that Disney has used a virtual queue for new rides. At Walt Disney World, both Rise of the Resistance and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure had virtual queues. At Disneyland Resort, Rise of the Resistance and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure used virtual queues when they first opened. None of those rides currently use virtual queues.
The virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is expected to open at 7 am, along with the rest of the rides that are available on Disney Genie+ or are Individual Attraction Selections. If you would like to try to secure your spot in line, then it is suggested that you get on to your My Disney Experience app a couple of minutes before 7, so you are ready to go when the queue opens.
If you are unable to snag your free spot, you can try to purchase Lightning Lane access. However, those spots will also sell out quickly.
Are you planning on trying to ride Cosmic Rewind when it opens on May 27?
