When planning a trip to Walt Disney World, you want to double (and maybe triple) check every detail. Things are changing all the time at Disney World, so you need to stay up to date with the latest developments at the parks and resorts. If you’re traveling to Walt Disney World this holiday season, you need to be prepared for one Disney park closure announced this week for Thanksgiving day.

Disney Park Development

When creating his first theme park, the Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney made a famous remark about the development of his parks. He said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” This statement continues to guide the Walt Disney Company as they continue to change and expand the Disney parks across new locations.

The Walt Disney World Resort alone has seen many changes in the last few years. We’ve seen attractions change, including the closure of beloved Splash Mountain to be replaced by Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Additionally, exciting new attractions have been added, like the opening of Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana.

Dangerous Weather Conditions

However, in addition to the scheduled changes for refurbishment and park development, Disney World has also had sudden closures and changes due to weather. The weather in Orlando, Florida, can be unpredictable and, at times, dangerous. With these conditions in mind, the Walt Disney World Resort takes changing weather conditions very seriously, monitoring updates closely.

The most notable Disney park closures when it comes to hazardous weather have been due to hurricanes and tropical storms that have hit the Orlando, Florida, area in recent years. Hurricane season in Florida typically lasts from June through the end of November. However, this week, a Disney park is planning to close for weather, but not due to any hazardous storm.

This Thursday, November 23, 2023, Disney’s Blizzard Beach waterpark will be closed due to dropping temperatures hitting the Orlando, Florida, area. This Thanksgiving, the temperatures for the surrounding area of Walt Disney World are predicted to reach only 68 degrees and lows of 54 degrees Fahrenheit.

As of now, Blizzard Beach will also remain closed through Friday, November 24, 2023. The park is set to reopen on Saturday, November 25, 2023. However, with temperatures predicted to be between 73 and 57 degrees on Saturday, it’s possible the park may remain closed beyond Thursday and Friday. If you are traveling to Walt Disney World this week, be sure to check the operating hours each day on the website or My Disney Experience app before heading to the parks. Additionally, Guest Relations is always available to answer any questions about Disney park closures or operating hours.

About Megan Losey

As a Disney foodie, I love writing about Disney food and snacks. Some of my favorites are the Carrot Cake Cookie from Trolley Car Cafe, the Mickey Beignets from Port Orleans French Quarter, and the Apple Blossom from Port Orleans Riverside. When I'm visiting the parks, you can find me on Main Street taking in the good vibe of Magic Kingdom or relaxing with a drink at the Polynesian watching the fireworks from the beach. As a previous Cast Member, I will always have a special place in my heart for the Magic Kingdom, especially Main Street U.S.A.
