Sky High Prices Overshadow Disney World’s Newest Restaurant Opening

While many people might think about the four theme parks, two water parks, and Disney Springs when planning their Walt Disney World vacation, those are not the only places offering memorable experiences. Disney’s BoardWalk offers some truly unique experiences and dining options. Guests can enjoy the huge Kitchen Sink dessert from Beaches & Cream, enjoy a gorgeous cocktail at AbracadaBar, and watch talented musicians engage in a dueling piano battle at Jellyrolls.

And that’s just the beginning. Soon, a new restaurant will open on the BoardWalk, offering stunning desserts and top-of-the-line dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But its prices will have guests doing a double-take.

The Cake Bake Shop Disney World, created by renowned baker Gwendolyn Rogers, is poised to be a significant addition to Disney’s BoardWalk. The establishment features two unique areas: a bakery and a restaurant. Visitors can expect a whimsical and elegant ambiance, marked by its beautiful decor and polished interiors. The design aims to capture the magic of Disney while offering a dining experience filled with charm and sophistication.

The bakery side focuses on delightful sweets and pastries, while the restaurant promises an extensive menu that includes breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Both areas are designed to provide an inviting atmosphere that encourages guests to linger and indulge.

Despite the mouthwatering offerings at The Cake Bake Shop, many guests have expressed disbelief over the exorbitant menu prices. Items such as a simple Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, priced at $18, raise eyebrows among potential diners. The surprising price points have sparked discussions both online and within the parks, as guests weigh the value of high-quality dining against steep costs.

The Cake Bake Shop Disney World offers a diverse range of options tailored to satisfy various palates. Breakfast and brunch offerings include classics like Eggs Benedict, costing $34, and various sweet treats like Belgian Waffles priced at $22. Unique brunch options like Cinnamon Toast Brioche Bites come in at $24, ensuring that guests can enjoy both savory and sweet beginnings to their day.

Lunch and dinner options are similarly enticing. The lunch menu includes items such as the Tuna Salade Sandwich for $24 and the Crab Cakes at an eye-watering $52. Dinner selections expand to heartier entrees, including a classic burger priced at $32 and a Chicken Piccata costing $36.

The signature desserts are perhaps the most astonishing aspect of the menu. Slices of cake at The Cake Bake Shop Disney World can cost up to $26 for a slice of Mixed Berry Cheesecake, while other special cakes, like the gluten-free Oprah’s ‘O’ List Mint Chocolate Chip Cake, are priced at $24 per slice. Guests can expect that desserts will follow suit in terms of both quality and presentation, but many struggle to justify the price.

The pricing has led to speculation regarding the sustainability of The Cake Bake Shop at Disney World. Many industry experts predict that without price adjustments, the restaurant may struggle to attract a loyal customer base in an environment where guests typically expect a memorable yet reasonably priced dining experience.

Guests often anticipate an upsell when dining at Disney World, but the prices at The Cake Bake Shop could prove excessive. The concern is whether guests are willing to pay for high-quality food in a family-centric tourist destination that is already struggling to defend its price increases.

The Cake Bake Shop does not yet have an opening date, but Disney Dining will let readers know when we learn of one.

  1. The prices at the Cale shop are way too much and I would choose to go somewhere else (I.e. somewhere in Star Wars land or go to Epcot and just tour the world and see what interest me )

  2. The prices as stated are way out of line. I have been coming to WDW since 1972, and understand prices change with time. These prices do not make sense even with the alleged comfortable setting. Please consider the beauty of the Grand Cafe and the wonderful food with prices not even close to the 18 dollar PB&J.

  3. Indeed the Cake Bake Shop is a unique and amazing place to eat and enjoy unbelievable desserts at both their signature location in Indianapolis where they originated and their second location in nearby Carmel, Indiana. The atmosphere and fairytale ambiance makes it a favorite for both our granddaughters and the adults alike. Certainly, the prices are much lower than those stated in the article and I agree that they may find it necessary to moderate prices in order to succeed. I do hope it’s a success because it is distinctly unique and of the highest quality.
