We are just about 100 days until the 2024 presidential election, and both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are frequently seen on the campaign trail. The Republican National Convention is about to kick off in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Donald Trump is expected to be named the Republican candidate for president.

On his way to the convention, former President Trump made a stop for a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. During the rally, shots rang out, and attendees scattered. The former President was rushed off-stage and appeared to be bleeding. Initial reports indicate that a bullet grazed his ear.

Shortly after the shooting, President Joe Biden paused his political commercials and released a statement, saying that he had been briefed on the shooting. He also said that he was thankful the former president was safe, and that political violence has no place in the United States.

I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania.

I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.

President Biden was not the only person to release a statement, of course. Another notable name wished the former president a speedy recovery, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger.

We are all thankful that President Trump was not severely injured, and I wish him a speedy recovery. I offer my most heartfelt condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore and I am praying for the other victims of this unconscionable shooting. As a nation, we must all unite in condemnation of political violence.

While Iger and Trump stand on opposite sides of the political spectrum, the former President did come out last year and support Iger and Disney in its fight with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Trump said that DeSantis’s fight with Disney was costing the state of Florida a lot of money.

At this time, not much is known about the shooter, who has been identified as 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed shortly after firing his gun. The FBI is at the beginning stages of its investigation, but so far, no motive has been uncovered. All that has been revealed was that the young man was a registered Republican and known as a quiet kid in school.

A 50-year-old volunteer fire chief, Corey Comperatore was also killed in the shooting. According to reports, he died trying to protect his family during the chaos.

We send our thoughts and prayers to the victims of Sunday’s terrible shooting.
