Disney Reveals Africa Replacement at Animal Kingdom Theme Park in Florida

The transformation of one of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park’s most tucked-away destinations is accelerating as the clock ticks toward opening day.

On Tuesday, BlogMickey reported that Walt Disney World Resort had removed the Rafiki statue and surrounding design elements from the entrance sign at the Wildlife Express Train Station in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

A white tarp had been concealing the sign for some time, but the outlines of Rafiki, a cutout of the Earth, and other protruding pieces had remained visible through the fabric. However, that’s no longer the case. The elements have been pulled completely, leaving the structure clean and free of any connection to the Rafiki’s Planet Watch era.

The Story Behind the Closure

Conservation Station has a longer history at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park than many guests realize. It opened alongside the park in April 1998 before being rebranded as Rafiki’s Planet Watch in 2000 — a name change that brought its own layer of confusion, since the indoor building at the site kept the Conservation Station name throughout. That building served as home to the park’s animal veterinary center, Disney character meet-and-greets, and Animation Academy classes over the years. Attached to it was the Affection Section petting zoo.

The area closed temporarily on February 23, 2026, bringing the Wildlife Express Train — the only way to reach it — to a halt as well. Since then, the train station in Africa has been repurposed as an outdoor meet-and-greet spot for Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy.

Bluey and Bingo Are Moving In

The reimagined space is set to reopen on May 26 as part of Walt Disney World Resort’s Cool KIDS’ Summer celebration, reclaiming the Conservation Station name it carried at the park’s debut. The headline attraction is Bluey’s Wild World, an interactive indoor experience built around Bluey and Bingo from the internationally beloved Australian children’s series. Guests will be able to meet the characters, dance, and participate in games directly from the show — including “Butterfly Keepy Uppy.”

The Affection Section is also returning, though in a new form that complements the Bluey theme. The reimagined petting zoo will feature Australian animals, grounding the experience in the world the show calls home.

Once Conservation Station reopens, Wildlife Express Train service will resume as well, restoring the steam train journey from Africa that has been suspended since February.
