Disney Closes Parking Area to Double the Size of Theme Park

Disneyland Resort is making big moves to transform Disney California Adventure Park, and they started with the closure of the Timon parking lot on Sunday, January 12. The parking area is being repurposed as part of a project that will double the size of Avengers Campus, the park’s popular Marvel Studios-themed land.

Avengers Campus debuted on June 4, 2021, replacing A Bug’s Land with a superhero haven filled with attractions, entertainment, and themed dining. The land currently features two rides—WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!—but Disneyland Resort has confirmed that two new attractions are on the way.

The Avengers Campus expansion will introduce two brand-new experiences: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests on a multiverse-spanning adventure aboard a world-jumping spaceship. Using a combination of massive props and cutting-edge digital effects, the ride promises to immerse guests in their favorite Marvel stories like never before.

Stark Flight Lab, on the other hand, is a thrilling flight simulator that lets guests experience what it’s like to soar as Iron Man. The ride will feature an auto factory-style robotic arm to simulate flight, giving fans a taste of Tony Stark’s iconic technology.

To top it off, Robert Downey Jr. has reprised his role as Iron Man for both new attractions. Disney Parks fans got a sneak peek of Downey Jr. testing the ride alongside Disney CEO Bob Iger at D23 Expo 2024.

What’s Changing at Disney California Adventure Park

As part of the expansion, Disneyland Resort is closing the backstage Red Car Trolley Barn, which means the end of the park’s beloved trolley service. The Red Car Trolley will officially close on February 8. However, Disney plans to preserve a piece of its history by keeping one trolley stationary on Buena Vista Street as a photo opportunity for guests.

The parking area closure and other changes were detailed in permits submitted by Disneyland Resort to the city of Anaheim. These public documents outline plans for new utility systems, temporary trailers, and backstage adjustments, all in preparation for the expanded Avengers Campus.

Disneyland Resort has not announced an official opening date for the new Avengers Campus attractions.

  1. I would love to see a spiderman theme where it shows you what it feels like to swing on the spiderweb. This could be a thrill of a life time.
