This year’s Oscars ceremony was definitely one for the ages. Unfortunately, not really for the best reasons. Fans were less than thrilled with the performance of the Encanto hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” — which was not performed by the original actors. However, that was small potatoes compared to what happened when Chris Rock took the stage to present. Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s medical condition, which caused Will Smith to walk up onto the stage and slap the comedian.
Smith’s actions shocked everyone. Some first thought it was a bit, but then realized that Smith had actually hit Rock in anger. The Academy denounced the slap and even considered removing Smith from the show. However, he was allowed to stay and later won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Richard Williams in the film, King Richard.
The whole hullabaloo surrounding the awards has many thinking about how to prevent such a thing from happening in the future. And many are coming up with the same solution — having The Muppets host next year’s ceremony. And they really have a point, I mean, who can ever get mad when Kermit, Miss Piggy, and all of their friends take the stage.
Fans took to Twitter the day after the Oscars to voice their support for bringing The Muppets back to host. One of those people was Houston Coley (@blockbutedpod), who believed that no one hates a Muppet.
I’m just saying, none of this would have happened if you’d just let The Muppets host The Oscars. Nobody wants to punch a Muppet

Muppet History (@HistoryMuppet) pointed to the success of The Muppets hosting in the past as the reason to bring them back next year.
This moment from the 1986 #Oscars is the only proof you need for why the Muppets should be hosting.

Pat Ziki (@NotGoingToHelp) believes that having The Muppets host would be a real bright spot for The Academy — which has been struggling with viewership the past few years — but feels that The Academy is focusing on the wrong group of voters.
the #AcademyAwards2022 should be hosted by the Muppets. But the Academy isn’t creative enough to let this happen. They’re chasing tik tok voters when this would be a genuine prestige show given respect with our muppet friends. Every bit would be glorious. #Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has not addressed hosting for next year. However, having The Muppets host might not be the worst idea. The Muppets have retained their incredible popularity, with Muppets Haunted Mansion being a hit on Disney+. A new Muppets — The Muppets Mayhem — series is even in the works at Disney+, showing their staying power.
They have also not said if any changes will be made to the layout of the show. This year, in an attempt to draw in more viewers, it was decided that eight awards would be cut from the live broadcast and more entertainment would be added. The move did not go over well, with many speaking out against it. It remains to be seen if those awards will make it back into next year’s show.
