The countdown to Christmas is bringing more than festive decorations and seasonal entertainment to California’s theme parks.
With the holiday season quickly approaching, a longtime attraction has temporarily closed, leaving families without access to an experience that has been around for 25 years.
Although Disney previously announced the closure, the blocked-off entrance may still catch some visitors off guard, especially those hoping to enjoy the attraction before the holiday crowds arrive.
Fortunately, the shutdown isn’t permanent, and Disney has already confirmed when the popular experience will return with a festive addition.
Disneyland Prepares for One of Its Busiest Seasons
Halloween is officially over, and Disneyland Resort is wasting little time preparing for its next major celebration.
Throughout Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, Christmas decorations are beginning to replace Halloween displays as both parks prepare for the holiday rush.
Disneyland Resort’s official holiday season runs from November 13, 2026, through January 6, 2027.
During that period, visitors can enjoy seasonal entertainment, Christmas decorations, special food offerings, and character experiences throughout the resort.
However, not every holiday transformation happens overnight.
Some locations require additional preparation before Disney can introduce seasonal experiences, and that means certain areas must temporarily close to visitors.
One of those closures is already affecting Disney California Adventure, where a longtime attraction has become inaccessible while crews prepare for Christmas.

Disney California Adventure Blocks Off Popular Attraction
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, located in the Grizzly Peak area of Disney California Adventure, has temporarily closed as Disney prepares for Santa Claus’s arrival.
Guests approaching the attraction will find ropes blocking the entrance, along with a sign explaining that the area is unavailable “due to bear activity.”
Despite the unusual warning, there isn’t an actual wildlife emergency. The message simply plays into the attraction’s outdoor wilderness theme.
The closure follows another seasonal transformation at the location.
During Oogie Boogie Bash, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail hosted Villains Grove, a nighttime walkthrough that brought Disney villains into the wooded setting.
Now that Halloween has ended, Disney is preparing the area for a much different visitor.
The attraction will reopen on Friday, November 13, the same day Disneyland Resort officially begins its Christmas celebrations.
Once it reopens, families can meet Santa Claus at Ahwahnee Camp Circle, located near the attraction’s entrance.
Until then, visitors will have to skip the experience entirely.

An Attraction With 25 Years of History
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail isn’t a recent addition to Disney California Adventure.
The attraction opened alongside the park in February 2001 and has remained part of its family-friendly offerings ever since.
Unlike traditional attractions where guests board vehicles, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail allows families to explore an outdoor adventure area at their own pace.
Children can climb through different structures, cross rope bridges, enjoy slides, and discover interactive activities inspired by California’s forests.
The area also includes Kenai’s Spirit Cave, where visitors can discover their animal spirits.
For parents traveling with younger children, the attraction provides a chance to enjoy a different kind of Disney experience.
Its shaded surroundings and outdoor activities also offer a change of pace from the park’s larger attractions.
Although the experience has been around for 25 years, Disney continues to find new ways to use the location year-round.

Not the Only Holiday News at Disneyland
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail won’t be the only place families can meet Santa Claus this Christmas.
Disneyland Park will also introduce a new meeting location for the holiday character.
This year, Santa will greet guests at Mickey’s Toontown Trolley Barn rather than his previous location.
Meanwhile, Disneyland Resort’s three official hotels will offer additional opportunities to meet Santa from November 13 through December 24, subject to availability.
Pixar Place Hotel will welcome Santa in its main lobby, while Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will host him inside the Great Hall.
Guests visiting Disneyland Hotel can also find Santa in the hotel’s main lobby.
These locations give families several options for enjoying the holiday tradition during their visit.

This Isn’t Goodbye Forever
For now, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail remains unavailable to Disney California Adventure visitors.
While the closure may disappoint families who enjoy its climbing areas and outdoor activities, the shutdown is temporary.
Disney has already scheduled its reopening for November 13, when Santa Claus will begin welcoming holiday visitors.
With Christmas celebrations approaching, Disneyland Resort’s seasonal transformation is nearly complete.
And for families visiting before the festivities officially begin, this closure is another reminder that holiday preparations can temporarily affect their plans.
