Disney fans are growing concerned about the future of another beloved experience after reports suggest a familiar attraction could be disappearing permanently.
For months, guests have reportedly encountered barriers that block access to a popular feature, with little explanation of when it might reopen.
Now, new passenger accounts suggest the situation may be more serious than an extended refurbishment would suggest.
Parts of the experience have reportedly already been dismantled, and at least one guest claims a Disney employee confirmed that the attraction would not return.
Disney has not officially announced a permanent closure, leaving families wondering whether they have already missed their final opportunity to enjoy it.
Disney Guests Report Months of Unexpected Closures
The attraction at the center of the reports is the Mr. Ray-themed slide inside Nemo’s Reef, a children’s splash playground aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy cruise ships.
Inspired by Pixar’s Finding Nemo (2003), Nemo’s Reef features colorful underwater decorations, recognizable characters, and interactive water features designed for children ages four and younger.
The playground offers younger passengers the opportunity to enjoy age-appropriate water activities.
However, guests aboard both ships have reportedly been unable to access the Mr. Ray slide since approximately April or May 2026.
Passengers on Facebook and Reddit describe repeatedly finding the attraction blocked off.
While closures sometimes indicate temporary maintenance, one Reddit user claimed that a crew member explained the slide was being removed rather than repaired.
If accurate, that statement suggests families may never get another opportunity to experience the attraction.

Reports Suggest Disney Has Already Started Removing It
The latest passenger accounts suggest Disney may have already taken steps toward removing the slide.
Aboard the Disney Dream, guests have reportedly noticed that the extended bottom portion of the Mr. Ray slide has disappeared.
Meanwhile, the Mr. Ray figure, surrounding coral decorations, and staircase reportedly remain standing, although passengers cannot access them.
The Disney Fantasy has experienced similar reports of restricted access, but it remains unclear whether Disney has begun physically removing the slide aboard that vessel.
Neither ship has a publicly announced upcoming dry dock that would clearly explain when extensive reconstruction might occur.
Disney Cruise Line’s official Nemo’s Reef webpage also does not specifically identify the Mr. Ray slide.
However, that omission does not confirm permanent removal.
Disney has not publicly announced plans to retire the attraction or identified a replacement.

An Earlier Incident Raises Additional Questions
The reported closure has also drawn renewed attention to a prior injury within Nemo’s Reef.
In late 2025, a young child suffered a broken femur while playing in the splash area aboard the Disney Dream.
His mother, Courtney Livingston, later explained that Disney provided her family with another cruise following the incident.
When they returned in March 2026, Livingston noticed several changes.
Disney had removed the coral structure involved in her son’s fall and replaced portions of the playground flooring.
However, the child was not injured on the Mr. Ray slide.
The slide was also still operating when Livingston’s family returned.
There is no confirmed evidence connecting the injury to the slide’s reported closure.
Disney could be addressing maintenance concerns, evaluating safety issues, or considering a redesign. However, the company has not identified an official reason.
Disney Has Made Similar Decisions Before
Disney fans are familiar with permanent attraction closures, although major changes usually come with advance announcements.
Magic Kingdom’s Splash Mountain closed in January 2023 before reopening as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in June 2024.
At EPCOT, Maelstrom closed in 2014 to make room for Frozen Ever After.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios also retired The Great Movie Ride in 2017 and eventually replaced it with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Those closures gave guests opportunities to experience the original attractions before they disappeared.
The reported situation involving the Mr. Ray slide appears different.
Families reportedly encountered barriers and did not receive an announced final operating date or an explanation of the attraction’s future.

Another Disney Experience Gone for Good?
For now, Nemo’s Reef remains an advertised experience aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.
The reported removal concerns the Mr. Ray slide specifically, not the entire children’s playground.
Although passenger accounts suggest the slide may be permanently retired, Disney has not officially confirmed that decision.
Months of restricted access, reports of dismantling, and statements attributed to crew members have nevertheless raised serious questions.
For families hoping to enjoy this familiar Finding Nemo attraction again, the uncertainty may be particularly disappointing.
And if Disney ultimately confirms its permanent removal, guests may have already experienced their final ride without ever knowing it.
