Disney World Confirms Hollywood Studios Attraction Will Close Just Weeks After Reopening
One Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction just can’t seem to stay open for long.
Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie returned in late September following an extended closure. Less than a month later, Walt Disney World plans to shut it down again.
Disney has now confirmed an October closing date for the Mickey Shorts Theater, and there is currently no official reopening date.
The latest interruption continues a strange year for an attraction that originally opened in 2020 but has increasingly seen its theater used for other purposes.
Another Hollywood Studios Closure Is Coming
Vacation Fun is scheduled to temporarily close beginning October 28.
Guests who want to experience the attraction before the shutdown will need to visit by October 27.
Disney hasn’t announced why it is closing the Mickey Shorts Theater this time, and the company hasn’t said exactly how long the attraction will remain unavailable.
However, Disney made a very similar move last year.
Vacation Fun closed in late October 2025 and didn’t return until late December. During that period, Disney transformed the theater into a merchandise location supporting Disney Jollywood Nights.
Now, Vacation Fun is disappearing at nearly the same time of year.
Disney hasn’t officially said Jollywood Nights is behind the 2026 closure, so that connection isn’t confirmed. Still, last year’s schedule provides a possible indication of what guests could expect.
If Disney uses the location similarly this year, the closure could potentially stretch into early January 2027.
Vacation Fun Just Returned
What makes the announcement even more noticeable is how recently Vacation Fun reopened.
The attraction returned September 28 after the Mickey Shorts Theater spent weeks hosting another special offering.
Disney closed the location beginning August 9 for its Annual Passholder Kermit the Frog magnet distribution. That event kept Vacation Fun unavailable through September 27.
After finally reopening, the attraction will operate for only about a month before another closure begins.
And that’s only part of the story.
Disney also temporarily closed Vacation Fun from April 29 through May 5 for a Star Wars May the 4th merchandise event.
Before that, its late-2025 closure supported Disney Jollywood Nights.
The October shutdown will therefore become the fourth closure in under a year connected to another event or activation at the theater.
Mickey Shorts Theater Has Become a Flexible Space
Vacation Fun debuted in March 2020 and provides a very different experience from the thrill rides that dominate much of Hollywood Studios.
Guests can head inside the theater, take a seat, and watch Mickey and Minnie in an original animated short.
That can make it particularly useful for families who want something without a major wait or simply need an indoor break during their park day.
But Disney has increasingly demonstrated that Mickey Shorts Theater can serve another purpose.
Over the past year, the location has been used to support holiday merchandise, Star Wars merchandise, and an Annual Passholder magnet distribution.
Now, another temporary transformation appears likely.
October 27 Becomes the Deadline
Anyone hoping to see Vacation Fun before its next extended break should keep October 27 in mind.
Disney has confirmed the attraction will become unavailable starting October 28.
The biggest unanswered question is when it will return.
Disney hasn’t provided a reopening date, meaning guests visiting Hollywood Studios later this fall shouldn’t assume Vacation Fun will be part of their day.
If last year’s schedule provides any indication, the attraction could potentially remain closed throughout the holiday season.
For an attraction that only reopened September 28, that’s another quick turnaround. Vacation Fun is back for now, but guests have only a few more weeks before Mickey Shorts Theater closes its doors yet again.
