Walt Disney World appears to have something new in the works for Disney PhotoPass, but guests are going to have to wait a little longer to find out exactly what it is.
Disney recently teased that “even more PhotoPass attraction magic is on its way” and encouraged guests to stay tuned. Beyond that, the company isn’t giving away many details.
We don’t know which attraction is involved. We don’t know which Walt Disney World theme park will receive the addition. Disney hasn’t even explained what it means by additional PhotoPass “magic.”
Still, the fact that Disney specifically mentioned attractions makes the tease much more interesting.
Disney PhotoPass Could Be Getting Something New
PhotoPass is already a major part of the Walt Disney World vacation experience.
Disney has photographers positioned at more than 175 locations around the resort. Guests can get pictures in front of some of the most recognizable locations at Walt Disney World, including Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom, Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, and the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
But PhotoPass extends well beyond those traditional vacation pictures.
Disney also uses the service for character experiences, resort photography, and attraction photos. If you’ve ever finished a ride and discovered a picture of your reaction waiting for you afterward, you’ve experienced one of the biggest parts of Disney’s attraction photography system.
Now, something else appears to be coming.
Disney didn’t simply tease another PhotoPass location. Instead, it specifically said more PhotoPass attraction magic is coming.
That could mean several things.
Disney could introduce PhotoPass to another attraction. It could update the way pictures are captured on an existing ride. There could be a new type of video, special effect, or another digital feature involved.
For now, however, those possibilities are only speculation.
Disney hasn’t revealed enough information to know how large this addition will be.
Disney Is Already Adding More PhotoPass Experiences
The timing is also worth noting.
Earlier in September, Disney introduced another PhotoPass experience at Disney Springs. Guests visiting Disney PhotoPass Studio can find backgrounds inspired by Frozen (2013) and Toy Story (1995).
That experience doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the attraction-related announcement, but it shows Disney is continuing to invest in different ways for guests to capture memories during their vacations.
Now the focus appears to be shifting toward attractions.
Ride photos have been around for years, but Disney has plenty of room to build on that concept. Automatic cameras allow Disney to capture moments guests couldn’t realistically photograph themselves, especially during faster or more intense attractions.
That’s why this tease is worth following.
Disney could simply be preparing to add another traditional attraction photo. However, the wording leaves open the possibility that something different could be on the way.
Now We Wait for Disney’s Reveal
The biggest thing guests need to know right now is that Disney hasn’t announced an opening date or even identified the attraction involved.
There is nothing guests need to reserve, purchase, or change about an upcoming vacation yet.
Instead, this is an early tease of something Disney clearly intends to talk about again.
That mystery may actually be the most interesting part.
Disney PhotoPass already covers photography throughout Walt Disney World, from theme park icons to characters and attractions. Finding another way to expand that service could make it easier for families to capture moments that otherwise disappear as soon as the ride ends.
Whether Disney is planning a small addition or something much larger remains to be seen.
For now, Disney is asking guests to stay tuned.
