Disney’s Christmas celebrations have come with an unwelcome catch.
The holidays are traditionally among the busiest periods at Disney’s theme parks. At Walt Disney World Resort, crowds typically swell around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, with Magic Kingdom particularly vulnerable to lengthy attraction wait times and limited park availability.

Seasonal entertainment can make those crowds even harder to navigate. Guests often spend hours waiting for Christmas character meet-and-greets, holiday parades, and other experiences that disappear once the festive season ends.
Disney has experimented with several ways to manage this demand, including virtual queues. Previously used for attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the system has divided guests for years.
Now, as another Disney resort launches its Christmas celebrations, the controversial system is back for some of its most popular festive experiences.

Disney Confirms Virtual Queue Restrictions for Christmas 2026
Disneyland Paris has officially brought back virtual queues for guests hoping to meet Santa Claus and Jack Skellington during Disney Enchanted Christmas, which runs from November 7, 2026, through January 6, 2027.

Both characters required virtual reservations during the 2025 holiday season, meaning the system’s return isn’t entirely surprising. However, it does mean guests cannot simply join a traditional standby line to meet either character this Christmas.
Santa Claus has also moved locations for 2026. Instead of greeting guests in Discoveryland, he can now be found inside Disney Clothiers on Main Street, U.S.A., where Disney has created a festive workshop.
The new setting has already attracted positive attention from parkgoers.

Santa’s meet-and-greet runs through December 25, meaning families visiting after Christmas will miss the opportunity, even though the resort’s broader holiday celebrations continue into January.
Meanwhile, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King from The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), is greeting guests in his festive attire at Critter Coral in Frontierland.
Guests must reserve access to both experiences using the Disneyland Paris mobile app on the day of their visit. Those unable to use the app can also request assistance from a cast member at the relevant character location, subject to availability.
Neither experience requires an additional paid ticket beyond park admission, but securing a reservation is another matter.
Disney’s Virtual Queue Rules Could Complicate Holiday Visits
The restrictions extend beyond Disney’s Christmas characters.
Disneyland Paris also uses virtual queues for Meet Mickey Mouse, Princess Pavilion, Nick Wilde, and selected Marvel character experiences at the Super Hero Training Center in Avengers Campus.
Guests visiting Disney Adventure World must also reserve access to Rencontre Royale, the Anna and Elsa meet-and-greet inside Arendelle Castle at World of Frozen.

Disney’s official rules specify that new virtual queue reservations are released daily at 9:45 a.m. and 2 p.m., subject to availability. Visitors must first enter the park and have their admission ticket scanned before attempting to join.
There are other restrictions worth remembering. Guests may hold only one virtual queue reservation at a time, join a maximum of five virtual queues daily, and book each eligible character experience just once per day.
Each reservation can accommodate up to six guests, excluding children under three who do not require their own booking.
While the system reduces time spent physically standing in line, popular reservations can disappear almost immediately. Anyone unable to secure a spot may have to abandon their plans to meet a particular character altogether.

The return of virtual queues comes during a particularly significant Christmas season for Disneyland Paris.
For the first time, the resort’s recently opened World of Frozen is celebrating the holidays. The Arendelle-themed land features seasonal decorations, winter wreaths, artificial snowfall, and performances by the Arendelle carollers.
Elsewhere, Mickey’s Dazzling Christmas Parade! returns twice daily, alongside the Magical Christmas Tree Lighting and the “Let’s Sing Christmas!” musical show featuring Mickey Mouse and his friends.
These experiences are included with regular park admission and do not require the same virtual queue reservations, although Disney offers paid reserved viewing for the Christmas parade.
