October is the one month where Disney+ and Hulu stop staying in their lanes.
The rest of the year the split is clean. Disney+ takes family, Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. Hulu takes FX, adult drama, and the back catalog nobody expects under a Mickey logo.
Then Halloween hits, both launch their seasonal events, and you get Hereditary and Hotel Transylvania landing days apart on services owned by the same company.

The Headliners
Coven Academy hits Disney+ and Hulu October 2, all episodes. The supernatural teen drama premieres October 1 on Freeform and already drew a boycott call before airing.
The Banana Bowl streams live on Disney+ October 10 at 8 p.m. ET.
VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ October 14, with episodes October 21 and 28.
American Horror Story: 13 opens October 1 on Hulu with three episodes, running weekly to an October 29 finale.
Abbott Elementary season 6 returns October 8.
The ABC Wave
Mid-month is when broadcast season lands.
October 16 is the big one: 9-1-1 season 10, 9-1-1: Nashville season 2, and Grey’s Anatomy season 23 all return the same day.
Also returning: Scrubs season 2 and Shark Tank season 18 with two-episode premieres October 1, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune season 7 on October 3, and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? season 5 weekly.
Dancing with the Stars season 35 continues live Tuesdays on Disney+ at 8 p.m. ET, hitting Hulu Wednesdays.
The Movie Drop
October 1 is the heaviest day of the month on Hulu.
Arriving: Barbarian, Edward Scissorhands, all three Ghostbusters films, both Hotel Transylvania movies, all three Night at the Museum films, all five Die Hard films, both Grown Ups, both Surf’s Up, and Soulm8te.
Then October 3 brings Hereditary and Midsommar on the same day.
That pairing is the most aggressive thing on this calendar. Not casual Halloween viewing, and it is sharing a platform with Hotel Transylvania, which is exactly the range Hulu is built for.
