California Theme Park Slaughters Iconic Mickey Mouse in New 2026 Haunted House

Mickey Mouse isn’t usually the character you’d expect to find at the center of a gruesome theme park scene.

That’s exactly what guests are encountering in California this Halloween season.

A new haunted experience for 2026 puts an early version of the famous Disney character in a situation with no cartoon-style escape. Guests eventually find Mickey motionless, murdered in a gruesome way. The disturbing image makes more sense once you know the story surrounding it.

An Old Cartoon Studio Turns Into a Nightmare

Knott’s Berry Farm is behind the unexpected scene as part of Inked, a new haunted house featured during the park’s Halloween season.

The attraction introduces Mortimer Morbid, a washed-up cartoonist from the 1930s who once ran Morbid Studios.

Mortimer eventually discovers an unusual way to bring his struggling creations back to life. Blood can become ink, allowing whatever he imagines to become real.

He decides to use that discovery to create one final Halloween special.

Things quickly go wrong.

Instead of producing harmless cartoons, Mortimer unleashes murderous toons that target viewers and attempt to pull them into their twisted world.

The concept gives Knott’s a chance to take the familiar appearance of early black-and-white animation and turn it into something designed to frighten guests. That becomes particularly noticeable when one famous mouse enters the story.

Mickey Gets Caught in the Wrong Place

Guests traveling through Inked eventually encounter the early Mickey Mouse from Steamboat Willie (1928).

He hasn’t survived.

Mickey appears dead inside a giant mousetrap, transforming one of animation’s most recognizable characters into part of the haunted experience.

Knott’s can use elements from this specific incarnation because Steamboat Willie (1928) entered the U.S. public domain in 2024.

That doesn’t give creators free rein over every version of Mickey Mouse. Disney continues to maintain rights involving later incarnations of the character, trademarks, and other protected material.

But the early black-and-white Mickey works particularly well within Inked’s fictional 1930s cartoon studio.

There’s another connection hiding in the story.

Walt Disney initially considered naming his famous character Mortimer Mouse before eventually settling on Mickey. Knott’s hasn’t said that Mortimer Morbid represents Walt Disney, but the similarities are hard to overlook.

The name, time period, animation studio setting, and appearance of the early Mickey all give guests something to think about as they move through the attraction.

Knott’s Takes Its Cartoons Somewhere Dark

Inked makes its horror intentions clear from the beginning.

Blood becomes ink. Cartoons become killers. Viewers become targets. Eventually, an early version of Mickey ends up dead inside a trap.

The attraction takes imagery normally associated with innocent vintage cartoons and gives it an entirely different purpose.

That fits naturally with Knott’s Scary Farm, where horror takes priority over creating a Halloween event for younger families.

Not everyone wants that level of intensity, though.

Fortunately, families looking for costumes, candy, Disney characters, and a less frightening Halloween celebration have another major theme park option nearby.

Disney Celebrates Halloween Without the Horror

Disney California Adventure is once again hosting Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party in 2026.

The separately ticketed event takes a much different approach to the season.

Instead of sending guests through horror-focused haunted houses, Disney fills the party with villains, trick-or-treating, costumes, characters, themed entertainment, and other special experiences.

Guests can walk through immersive treat trails featuring Disney villains. They can also explore Villains Grove, which transforms the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail into an atmospheric nighttime experience.

That makes Oogie Boogie Bash an alternative for families who enjoy the spooky side of Halloween without wanting the intensity offered at Knott’s Scary Farm.

Getting inside the party in 2026, however, has become difficult.

Disney’s Biggest Party Is Already Out of Reach

General admission for the 2026 Oogie Boogie Bash event dates has sold out.

Guests who didn’t secure tickets will generally have to wait until the 2027 Halloween season for another opportunity to attend.

Still, Disneyland Resort offers other ways to celebrate Halloween.

Visitors can find seasonal decorations, food, entertainment, characters, and attraction transformations around the resort during the Halloween season.

Those experiences give guests another option if Oogie Boogie Bash is unavailable or Knott’s Scary Farm sounds too intense.

California Gives Mickey Two Very Different Halloween Stories

Southern California’s major theme parks couldn’t take more different approaches to Halloween.

Disney continues surrounding Mickey and its other characters with family-friendly seasonal experiences. Knott’s Berry Farm has taken the public-domain Mickey from Steamboat Willie (1928) and placed him inside a horror story filled with murderous cartoons.

And his appearance in Inked doesn’t end well.

For nearly a century, audiences have watched Mickey escape one cartoon predicament after another.

At Knott’s Scary Farm, the mousetrap finally gets him.
