James Bond is heading into a new era, and it’s happening far beyond the next movie.
In gaming, 007 First Light (2026) has already introduced Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin) as a younger version of the character, with IO Interactive reimagining Bond’s early days as a 26-year-old recruit entering MI6.
In audio, Big Finish Productions is bringing Charlie Higson’s Young Bond novels to life with Isaac Rouse starring as the teenage 007 in Young Bond: SilverFin Part 1 (2026).
The literary side is expanding, too. Kim Sherwood’s Hurricane Room, the third book in her Double O trilogy, is already available, while Vaseem Khan’s The Man with the Golden Compass and M. W. Craven’s James Bond and the Secret Agent Academy will soon take the franchise in different directions.
Then there’s King Zero (2026), which brings back Young Bond author Charlie Higson. The novel is a sequel to his 2023 short story On His Majesty’s Secret Service (2023) — not to be confused with the similarly-titled film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) starring George Lazenby.
“Charlie Higson’s return to James Bond follows his outstanding success with On His Majesty’s Secret Service, commissioned for the King’s Coronation, and we are delighted to be working with Charlie again, bringing the next chapter of Bond to fans,” Amanda Douglas, Managing Director of Ian Fleming Publications Ltd, said in an official announcement via IanFleming.com.
According to MI6-HQ.com, who interviewed Higson about King Zero earlier this year, the book is “his first full-length adult James Bond continuation novel.”

The new novel sends Bond after a murdered agent in the Saudi desert and into a global conspiracy involving a mysterious and powerful enemy. It arrives this September, giving fans another official continuation of 007’s story while the cinematic franchise remains in transition.
But the upcoming movie reboot will mark the biggest change of all. Amazon MGM Studios is developing an untitled James Bond film with Denis Villeneuve (the latest Dune films) directing and Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) writing. It will follow Daniel Craig’s final appearance as 007 in No Time to Die (2021), with a new actor taking over the iconic role.
That casting remains officially unconfirmed, although the rumor mill has been running at full speed.
