The Lost Continent has been part of the park since Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, but Universal is now dismantling the longtime area. Portions have closed in phases, and demolition has continued as Universal clears space for whatever comes next.
Universal’s secrecy has kept several rumors alive, including one involving The Legend of Zelda. Now, just as The Lost Continent continues disappearing, Nintendo has shared major news.
And the timing is certainly giving Universal fans more to talk about.
Nintendo Reveals More About Zelda’s Next Chapter
Nintendo has now provided fans with a clearer idea of what to expect from its live-action The Legend of Zelda movie.
During a Nintendo Direct focused on The Legend of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the film will officially be titled The Legend of Zelda.
Nintendo also explained that the movie will not be a direct adaptation of any specific game.
Instead, the story will draw from ideas, concepts, and stories that have appeared throughout the franchise over the years. That approach gives the filmmakers room to create a cinematic version of Hyrule without having to recreate one particular game from start to finish.
For longtime Zelda fans, that opens plenty of possibilities.
It also arrives at an interesting moment for Universal Orlando Resort.
Universal Still Hasn’t Revealed What’s Coming
The Lost Continent has been tied to Zelda speculation for years, but the conversation feels different now that Universal is actively demolishing the land.
Universal has been closing portions of The Lost Continent in phases as redevelopment progresses across the area. Despite all that work, the company has remained quiet about what guests will eventually find there.
That is where the latest Nintendo news becomes interesting.
If Universal really is considering The Legend of Zelda for the space, the company may have been waiting for Nintendo to reveal more about the franchise’s next major chapter before announcing its own plans.
That remains speculation.
Universal has not confirmed a Zelda land for Islands of Adventure, and Nintendo has not tied its movie announcement to the theme park project.

Universal already has a major Nintendo presence elsewhere in Orlando.
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD opened at Epic Universe in May 2025, bringing Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and other Nintendo characters into Universal Orlando Resort in a major way.
If Universal wanted to expand that partnership beyond Epic Universe, Zelda could give Islands of Adventure its own Nintendo-based destination.
Other Major Franchises Remain in the Mix
Of course, Zelda is not the only name to have followed the The Lost Continent replacement conversation.
Pokémon has repeatedly appeared in speculation surrounding Universal’s future expansion plans. The franchise would also give Universal another recognizable Nintendo-related property capable of supporting an entire themed area.
The Lord of the Rings has also surfaced frequently in discussions about what could eventually come to Islands of Adventure.
A Middle-earth land would fit the park’s adventure-heavy identity and could support major attractions, restaurants, shops, and detailed environments.
For now, all three possibilities remain unconfirmed.
