Pokémon Rumors Intensify as Universal Guts Major Islands of Adventure Area

Universal Orlando fans are watching one of Islands of Adventure’s original lands slowly disappear in real time.

What started as scattered construction walls and isolated demolition projects has now turned into something much larger. Large portions of Lost Continent are actively being gutted, and many longtime visitors believe Universal is preparing for a massive Pokémon-themed expansion.

While the company has not officially confirmed any Pokémon plans for Orlando, the amount of work happening behind the scenes continues fueling speculation across the theme park community.

And right now, it feels like the rumors are only getting louder.

Lost Continent No Longer Looks Like Itself

For years, Lost Continent stood apart from the rest of Islands of Adventure.

The land featured ancient temples, detailed rockwork, winding pathways, and some of the park’s most impressive atmosphere. Even after The Wizarding World of Harry Potter transformed the neighboring area into Universal’s biggest destination, Lost Continent still maintained much of its original identity.

Now, that identity is rapidly disappearing.

Poseidon’s Fury permanently closed in 2023, ending one of the park’s opening-day attractions. Soon after, demolition activity began increasing around the former Sinbad stunt theater. Since then, more construction walls have appeared throughout the area, while crews continue clearing structures and prepping infrastructure.

Guests walking through the area today can clearly see that Universal is preparing for something substantial.

The biggest rumor currently dominating discussions is the possibility of a full Pokémon retheme often referred to by fans as “Pokémon: Lost Continent.”

If that happens, Universal would effectively replace most of the original land with an entirely new franchise-driven environment.

Universal’s Pokémon Partnership Changed the Conversation

Speculation surrounding Pokémon exploded after Universal Destinations & Experiences announced a global partnership with The Pokémon Company.

The announcement immediately sparked theories about where Pokémon could eventually appear inside Universal parks. At first, many fans expected the franchise to land inside Epic Universe or Universal Studios Florida.

Instead, attention quickly shifted toward Lost Continent.

The timing of permit filings, construction walls, and demolition activity all seemed to line up with the growing Pokémon rumors. Fans also pointed out that Lost Continent provides far more available space than many other sections of the resort.

Reports suggest the full area spans close to eight acres.

That gives Universal room for multiple attractions, themed dining, immersive retail, and large guest pathways without the area feeling overcrowded. Compared to smaller themed expansions elsewhere at Universal Orlando, Pokémon could become a full destination rather than a single attraction.

And based on current construction activity, Universal appears fully committed to reshaping the land.

Rumored Ride Concepts Continue Circulating

Universal has remained extremely quiet about any future Pokémon attractions, but insiders continue circulating several rumored concepts.

One of the biggest possibilities involves a Pokémon Snap-style dark ride. Reports suggest Universal has explored Omnimover-style technology that would allow guests to move through detailed environments while interacting with Pokémon along the way.

Family-friendly roller coasters have also been heavily rumored.

That would fit perfectly with Pokémon’s broad audience appeal. Universal would likely want attractions that younger guests, teens, and adults could all enjoy together.

Many fans also expect highly immersive shopping and dining experiences if the project becomes reality.

Pokémon merchandise consistently performs at massive levels worldwide. Universal has already seen how successful themed retail can become through Harry Potter wands and Nintendo Power-Up Bands. Pokémon could easily become another merchandise powerhouse for the resort.

Universal Orlando Is Evolving Fast

The timing of this rumored project feels especially significant because Universal Orlando is already changing rapidly.

Epic Universe officially opened in 2025 and completely shifted the company’s future direction. Intellectual property-based lands now dominate nearly every major expansion at the resort.

Meanwhile, several classic Islands of Adventure experiences continue disappearing.

Poseidon’s Fury is gone forever. The Sinbad theater appears unlikely to survive. Even longtime landmarks like the Mystic Fountain now sit surrounded by ongoing construction activity.

For many longtime fans, Lost Continent represented one of the final pieces of Universal’s original non-IP storytelling era.

Now, the company appears ready to move fully into a different direction.

Pokémon Could Become the Resort’s Next Obsession

From a business standpoint, Pokémon makes almost too much sense for Universal.

The franchise remains one of the largest entertainment brands in the world. It appeals to children discovering Pokémon for the first time, adults who grew up with the original games, anime fans, collectors, and casual visitors alike.

That kind of multi-generational popularity is incredibly valuable for a theme park destination.

A fully immersive Pokémon land could instantly become one of the biggest draws at Islands of Adventure. It would also give Universal another franchise capable of generating huge merchandise sales, long wait times, and repeat visitation.

At the moment, Universal still has not officially announced any Pokémon expansion for Orlando.

But based on the scale of demolition happening inside Lost Continent, fans increasingly believe the transformation is already underway.

And if the rumors prove accurate, Islands of Adventure could soon lose one of its oldest lands while gaining one of the most anticipated theme park expansions in years.
