Marvel Officially Reveals New Wolverine Actor Following X-Men Cast Announcement
Hugh Jackman is rumored to return as Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday (2026), but his future as the iconic X-Men character is far from guaranteed.
Jackman has played Logan since 2000’s X-Men, appearing throughout the Fox franchise before returning in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Whether he’ll also be back in Doomsday remains to be seen; however, several of his former X-Men co-stars are confirmed to appear in the film.
At the same time, Marvel Studios has begun assembling an entirely new X-Men cast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That means Jackman will most likely be replaced as Wolverine.
Marvel’s New X-Men Cast
Marvel’s new X-Men era is already taking shape. After months of rumors, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink was revealed as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), marking an early step toward introducing the MCU’s new mutants.
Now we also know that Samara Weaving has been cast as Emma Frost, while Kit Connor will play Scott Summers/Cyclops. At D23, Marvel also confirmed Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister.
Wolverine, however, has not yet been announced for the new theatrical X-Men film.

Liam McIntyre Is the New Wolverine
There is, however, another new actor playing Wolverine in a different corner of the franchise. Liam McIntyre (Gears of War) provides the voice, likeness, and motion capture for the character in Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming game from Insomniac Games.
The brutal third-person action-adventure puts Logan at the center of the story, with McIntyre bringing his own interpretation to the character after Jackman’s run. That could make the game interesting for fans preparing for Marvel’s eventual theatrical recasting of Wolverine.
In an interview with Back Pocket, McIntyre called taking on the role a “huge responsibility,” having grown up watching the animated X-Men series. Watch the full interview:
