What Is Avengers: Doomsday?

Directed by the Russo Brothers, the film includes confirmed appearances that include Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Letitia Wright, and Pedro Pascal, with Robert Downey Jr. set to return as Victor Von Doom.

Returning X-Men characters include Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto. Notably absent from official announcements so far, however, is Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, despite ongoing rumors linking him to the project.

Jackman last appeared as the iconic X-Men character in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, marking a return to the role after his emotional farewell in James Mangold’s Logan (2017).

Across more than two decades, Jackman has become synonymous with the character, first debuting in Bryan Singer’s X-Men (2000) and reprising the role through multiple Fox-era installments including X2 (2003) and The Wolverine (2013).

Will Hugh Jackman Return as Wolverine?

While Jackman’s future in the MCU remains unconfirmed, Marvel is continuing to expand the character in other directions.

Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine, developed for PlayStation 5, recently resurfaced with a seven-minute gameplay deep dive from this year’s State of Play, showcasing its brutal combat system and cinematic presentation. Watch the official new video below:

The game features Liam McIntyre as the voice and performance actor for Logan. McIntyre, known for Spartacus: Vengeance (2012), leads a standalone narrative that is separate from Marvel Studios’ film continuity.

According to the official synopsis, the story follows Wolverine as he searches for answers about his past while being pushed into increasingly violent confrontations.

Wolverine also exists within the same universe as Insomniac’s Spider-Man series, suggesting potential crossover opportunities within Sony’s interconnected game world.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches on September 15.

Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18.
