Disney World Changes Hollywood Studios Parking Lot With New Designated Spaces
Parking lot changes are the kind of thing nobody notices until they are standing in one, confused.
New attractions get concept art and a press release. A repainted parking space gets nothing. You find out when a cast member waves you off a spot you have used a dozen times.
Something is changing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios right now.
Crews have been repainting sections of the parking lot, adding new disabled parking spaces and new guest pick-up and drop-off-only spaces.
If you use rideshare, this affects you. If you use disabled parking, same.

The Work
Spotted in the Minnie lot section outside the park entrance.
Crews added more blue and white lines to mark additional disabled parking near the entrance.
They also added several guest pick-up and drop-off only spaces. Those have not been in this lot before.
Why the Drop-Off Spaces Matter More
Extra disabled parking is straightforward and welcome. More capacity near the entrance helps anyone who needs it.
The drop-off spaces are the interesting part, because they suggest Disney is testing something.
Nothing has been announced about how they function, so this is an observation rather than a policy. But the addition points at a real problem.
Rideshare rewired how guests get to Walt Disney World. Uber, Lyft, and Minnie Vans now handle a huge share of arrivals and departures, and the infrastructure at most parks predates all of it.
At Hollywood Studios, that means rideshare vehicles, personal cars dropping off family, and pickups at the park close, all competing for the same curb and lanes. Anyone who has waited on a Lyft at closing knows how that goes.
Dedicated spaces address it directly.
Who Should Pay Attention
Rideshare users. Pickup locations at Disney parks already cause confusion. Drivers get lost, guests wait in the wrong place. Designated spaces could help a lot, but only if you know they exist.
Disabled parking users. The Minnie lot layout has changed. More spaces near the entrance, which is good, but the configuration you remember may not match what is there. Add a few minutes.
Everyone else. Spaces converted to drop-off use are no longer general parking. Near the entrance, that changes where the closest open spots are.
Why Test It Here
Hollywood Studios is a sensible choice.
The park has one of the more compact arrival areas on property, and it draws heavy early-morning crowds, particularly at rope drop for Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash. That squeezes arrivals into a narrow window.
Tight arrivals, limited curb space plus heavy rideshare volume create bottlenecks.
Moving that traffic out of the main flow could speed up parking for everyone. That appears to be the goal, though Disney has not confirmed it.
Still Unknown
Disney has not said whether these spaces are permanent or a trial.
No published guidance on:
- Time limits
- Whether they are rideshare-specific or open to anyone dropping off
- Whether cast members will enforce them
- Whether similar changes are coming to other parking lots
If it works here, the Transportation and Ticket Center or EPCOT would be the obvious next steps.
On Your Next Visit
Give yourself extra time arriving over the next few weeks. New paint confuses guests and drivers alike.
Follow cast member direction rather than parking on memory. Good advice always, better when the lines are new.
Using rideshare? Communicate your location clearly instead of assuming your driver knows the new setup. Regulars adapt quickly, just not immediately.
And if you rely on disabled parking, check the current configuration before your trip rather than arriving with an outdated map in your head.
