Disney World Confirms Years of Construction at Deluxe Resort, Major Pool Closure Set for 2028

Vacations to Be Impacted and Here's How

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge has refurbishment projects scheduled through spring 2028, including guest room renovations and a temporary closure of Copper Creek Springs Pool.

Disney World guests booking a stay at one of the resort’s most distinctive hotels have another construction timeline to consider. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is undergoing a series of refurbishments that will extend into spring 2028, with upcoming projects affecting guest rooms and one of the property’s biggest recreational attractions.

The Magic Kingdom-area Deluxe Resort is known for its towering lobby, wilderness-inspired architecture, and recreational amenities. But guests planning vacations over the next two years could encounter different conditions depending on when they arrive.

According to Walt Disney World’s official resort information, the property is undergoing construction and refurbishments. The announced schedule includes exterior improvements continuing through late 2026, guest room renovations in 2027, and a temporary closure of Copper Creek Springs Pool in 2028.

For families paying for a deluxe hotel experience, those dates could influence when they book.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Construction Continues Through Late 2026

Construction at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is already underway, and the current exterior refurbishment is scheduled to continue through late 2026.

The project covers both the main Wilderness Lodge hotel and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, the property’s Disney Vacation Club accommodations.

Exterior refurbishment began in August 2024, making this a multiyear undertaking rather than a recently launched construction project.

Disney has advised that guests may encounter obstructed views in certain areas and see or hear construction activity during daytime hours.

That distinction matters for travelers expecting a quiet resort getaway. While construction does not mean the hotel is closed, it could affect the atmosphere surrounding particular rooms and outdoor areas.

The work also forms part of a broader schedule of Disney World hotel construction that has affected several properties.

For Wilderness Lodge guests arriving before the end of 2026, the immediate concern is exterior activity rather than the later guest room and pool projects.

Disney World Schedules Wilderness Lodge Guest Room Renovations for Summer 2027

The next major phase will move inside the hotel.

Disney has scheduled a refurbishment of guest rooms at Wilderness Lodge from July through September 2027, introducing another potential consideration for guests traveling during the busy summer vacation period.

The announced dates identify the refurbishment window, but Disney has not publicly detailed every planned change to the rooms.

That means it is too early to determine exactly which furnishings, finishes, or other features will receive updates.

The distinction between the main hotel and its Disney Vacation Club accommodations is also important. Copper Creek Villas & Cabins underwent a separate refurbishment in 2025, while the newly announced 2027 work concerns guest rooms at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

Guests considering a summer 2027 reservation should therefore pay attention to which accommodation category they are booking.

The project also arrives amid a wider wave of refurbishment work across Disney World’s deluxe hotels.

Disney has not announced that all Wilderness Lodge guest rooms will become unavailable simultaneously or that existing reservations will be canceled because of the scheduled renovation.

Copper Creek Springs Pool Will Close in 2028

The most significant announced change for guests who enjoy resort recreation comes in January 2028.

Disney has scheduled a refurbishment of Copper Creek Springs Pool beginning that month and continuing through spring 2028.

During the project, the resort’s main feature pool will be temporarily unavailable.

Copper Creek Springs Pool is more than a standard hotel swimming pool. Disney’s official pool information describes a heated swimming area with a 67-foot waterslide built into rockwork, whirlpool spas, and a children’s play area.

For families who build swimming and resort relaxation into their Disney World vacations, losing access to those features could change how they spend their downtime.

The closure is especially relevant to guests considering stays during the first several months of 2028.

However, the announced refurbishment does not mean every swimming option at Wilderness Lodge will disappear.

Disney has not specified an exact reopening date beyond the spring 2028 timeframe.

Another Wilderness Lodge Pool Will Remain Available

Although Copper Creek Springs Pool will temporarily close, guests are expected to retain access to Boulder Ridge Cove Pool.

Located near Boulder Ridge Villas, the secondary swimming area offers a different experience from the resort’s main feature pool.

According to Disney, Boulder Ridge Cove includes a zero-entry swimming pool, a whirlpool spa, and shaded seating areas available on a first-come, first-served basis.

That gives guests an alternative place to swim while the larger refurbishment takes place.

Still, the distinction between the two pools is worth considering before booking.

Copper Creek Springs Pool includes the resort’s signature waterslide, while Boulder Ridge Cove is designed around a more relaxed swimming environment.

Families with children who specifically want the waterslide may find the temporary closure more consequential than travelers who simply want somewhere to cool off.

Wilderness Lodge also offers other recreation, including campfire activities and outdoor movie screenings, as detailed on Disney’s resort recreation page.

These experiences provide additional options during a stay, although their schedules and availability should be checked separately.

Disney World Guests Should Check Construction Dates Before Booking

The extended Wilderness Lodge schedule creates three distinct planning periods.

Guests arriving before late 2026 may encounter exterior refurbishment activity. Those traveling between July and September 2027 should account for the scheduled guest room work. Visitors arriving between January and spring 2028 should prepare for the temporary closure of Copper Creek Springs Pool.

Those are separate projects with different implications, not a confirmed continuous shutdown of Wilderness Lodge.

The broader resort refurbishment picture is also worth considering when comparing accommodations. Other deluxe properties have faced construction projects, including Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, as previously covered in Inside the Magic’s reporting on Disney resort disruptions.

For guests prioritizing pool time, the availability of a waterslide could become a deciding factor. For travelers who expect to spend most of their days inside the theme parks, exterior construction or room renovations may be less important, depending on their location and schedule.

Disney has not announced that Wilderness Lodge will close entirely during these projects.

Before finalizing a reservation, travelers should review Disney’s official refurbishment notices, compare their travel dates with the announced construction periods, and confirm which amenities will be available during their stay.

The next scheduled milestone is the completion of exterior refurbishment in late 2026, followed by the guest room project beginning in July 2027.
