Disney World Resorts Add Newly Themed Food Items This Fall at Various Resorts

The Mickey waffle is one of the most recognizable breakfast items in the theme park business.

Decades on Disney World menus. On merchandise. People buy the waffle maker for their own kitchen. There is a real argument to be had about which food court makes them best, and for plenty of guests the first Mickey waffle is when the vacation actually begins.

Plain. Butter. Syrup. Same as always.

Disney has decided that was leaving something on the table.

New character-shaped waffles and pancakes are arriving at several Disney Resort hotels this fall. Birthday cake. Strawberry. Caramel banana. Fruity cereal. Candy bar.

Not subtle. Dessert before nine in the morning, and every one comes with bacon and sausage.

Art of Animation: Birthday Cake

Landscape of Flavors gets the wildest item on the list.

Birthday cake custard on a waffle is a lot. Putting it at Art of Animation is smart, though. That resort runs heavy on families with small kids, and this is built to be pointed at and demanded on sight.

It also doubles as a birthday breakfast with no reservation required.

Port Orleans and Pop Century: Strawberry

Both Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter get the same thing.

Mickey-shaped Strawberry Waffles with creamy vanilla custard, at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, and at Riverside Mill Food Court.

Everything POP Shopping and Dining at Pop Century gets those waffles plus Strawberry Pancakes with the same custard.

Strawberry and vanilla custard is the most restrained option here, which will matter to somebody. Not everyone wants candy at breakfast.

All-Star Sports: Caramel Banana

End Zone Food Court gets the most classic pairing.

Mickey-shaped Caramel-Banana Waffles with streusel, plus a pancake version.

Caramel and banana is proven, and the streusel adds texture nothing else on this list has. This is the one most likely to work for adults, because it is closer to an actual dessert than a novelty.

All-Star Music: Fruity Cereal

Intermission Food Court goes a different way.

Mickey-shaped Fruit Cereal Waffles with creamy vanilla custard and fruit cereal, plus matching Fruit Cereal Pancakes.

Cereal as a topping has been trending for a few years because it fixes a texture problem. Custard and waffle are both soft. The cereal brings crunch.

Also, the most photogenic item of the bunch, which is not an accident.

All-Star Movies: Candy Bar

World Premiere Food Court is not holding back.

Mickey-shaped Candy Bar Waffles with cookie bar pieces, caramel, and chocolate sauce, plus Candy Bar Pancakes with the same.

Least breakfast-like item here by a mile. Cookie pieces, caramel, and chocolate sauce is a sundae. Calling it breakfast is a technicality.

It will sell out constantly.

Bacon and Sausage on Every Plate

Worth stopping on, because it changes the math.

All of these come with bacon and sausage. That makes them full plates instead of a novelty on the side, and the salt is doing real work against that much sugar.

It also means you are not picking between a fun breakfast and an actual one.

Why Now

Resort food courts have quietly turned into one of the more competitive corners of Disney World dining.

Value and moderate resort guests eat a lot of meals on property, and quick service food courts are where most of those happen. Giving every resort a signature item nobody else has makes a food court feel like a destination instead of a default.

Look at how these are spread. Birthday cake at Art of Animation. Strawberry across Port Orleans and Pop Century. Three different flavors at the three All-Star resorts.

Staying at All-Star Movies and want the fruity cereal one? You are walking to All-Star Music. That is on purpose, and for anyone who resort hops for food, breakfast just became a scavenger hunt.

Before You Go

These are at resort quick service locations, not in the parks.

Most items come as both waffle and pancake, so it is a texture decision more than a flavor one.

And the classic Mickey waffle is not going anywhere. Nothing here replaces it, which is the right call.

Some people want birthday cake custard at eight in the morning. Some people want butter and syrup.

Disney is doing both now.
