Disney World Pulls Polynesian Village Resort Exclusive Merchandise, No Longer Available to Guests

Two pressed penny designs unique to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort have disappeared from the hotel’s souvenir machine. Walt Disney World Resort replaced them with more character-focused artwork, and the discontinued designs are no longer available for purchase.

Pressed pennies remain one of the cheapest collectibles at Walt Disney World Resort. Location-specific designs appear at nearly every theme park, hotel, and throughout Disney Springs, and the hundreds of options mean most favorite characters are covered.

The U.S. Mint has stopped producing the penny, yet pressed copper coins are still a hit across the Central Florida Disney parks, Disney Resort hotels, and Disney Springs. Over the past year, the resort has been replacing its old hand-crank machines with modern dispensers featuring screens. Guests can buy one design for $1 or up to eight at a discount when paying by card.

Bringing a coin isn’t necessary. The machines hold blank copper-colored medallions that resemble a pressed penny once flattened and stamped.

What Disappeared

WDWNT reported on October 26 that a new machine had been installed in the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Some designs carried over, but two did not: one inspired by the Great Ceremonial House itself and another depicting the tiki at Trader Sam’s, the hotel’s famous bar. Those were the pieces most closely tied to the resort’s own identity.

Each coin features the same Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort logo and sawtooth border. The eight designs now available are:

  • Donald Duck playing a bongo drum
  • Heihei the chicken
  • Minnie Mouse in a tropical floral-print dress with a lei and Hibiscus flower
  • Stitch hugging Scrump
  • Mickey Mouse in a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, flip-flops, and a bucket hat
  • Angel and Stitch in grass skirts and floral headdresses dancing the hula
  • Minnie Mouse in a grass skirt, lei, and flower accessories dancing the hula as Mickey Mouse plays the guitar
  • Moana hugging Pua

How To Buy

A single penny is $1, and the full set of eight is $5. Both cash and cards work, but card payments require buying all eight. A collectible medallion machine with resort-inspired designs is located nearby.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t said whether the coin designs inspired by the Great Ceremonial House or Trader Sam’s will return. For now, guests who wanted those pennies are out of luck.
