Construction Disrupts Thousands of Guests as Disney Races To Prepare EPCOT Food & Wine Festival

Walt Disney World Resort is working against the clock — and apparently around the clock — to ready EPCOT for the 2026 International Food & Wine Festival, with daytime construction sounds echoing through a usually quiet section of the park as the August 27 opening approaches.

The source of the commotion is a playground tucked along the path between Canada’s La Poutinerie and the Imagination! Pavilion. Disney shuttered the interactive kids’ area on August 10, and the transformation became visible quickly.

On August 18, WDWNT reported that fall-themed decals had appeared on the support pillars framing the canopy overhead — brown wraps shaped to mimic tree trunks, dotted with orange autumn leaves, and illustrated woodland creatures, including an owl.

Green scrim fabric and a row of potted plants still conceal most of the work, but the sounds of ongoing construction have leaked through, drawing attention from passing guests. Walt Disney World Resort typically reserves loud work for overnight hours to minimize disruption, so the daytime noise signals just how tight the timeline has become.

The playground, which debuted in 2025 and has already cycled through multiple festival themes, will once again feature the popular Acorn Seating — oversized rest spots designed for kids and families to take a break between bites. Whether the seating has been installed yet isn’t clear from outside the scrim.

30 Years of the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

The 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs August 27 through November 21. To mark the event’s 30th anniversary, Walt Disney World Resort is reviving or reimagining 30 fan-favorite dishes from past festivals. The full Global Marketplace lineup was published this week on the Disney Parks Blog.
