Lucasfilm Confirms New ‘Star Wars’ Crossover, First-Look Images Revealed

Star Wars has crossed paths with countless other properties over the years — at least in the imaginations of fans.

For decades, audiences have theorized about connections between the galaxy far, far away and other major franchises, from Indiana Jones and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to Back to the Future. However, despite those theories, references, Easter eggs, and fan speculation, Lucasfilm has never officially merged the Star Wars universe with another major entertainment franchise.

That’s about to change. As Star Wars prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, Lucasfilm has officially announced a crossover with one of the biggest franchises in the world.

Star Wars and Marvel Are Officially Crossing Over

Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing have announced Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a five-part limited comic book series that will bring the two universes together.

Marvel.com has also revealed a first look at the project, showing several of the original Star Wars characters alongside Marvel’s biggest heroes and villains.

Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader appear alongside Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, The Hulk, Deadpool, Black Widow, Thor, Wolverine, and the Fantastic Four.

The project will take the events of Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) and place them within Marvel’s Earth-616.

According to the announcement, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will witness the events of A New Hope unfold following a reality-shattering spell, creating an entirely new version of the original Star Wars adventure.

Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles #1 is scheduled to launch in January 2027.

The crossover will form part of the wider celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of A New Hope, which will also include a Welsh-language version of the original film and Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy, an exhibition opening in Philadelphia in February 2027.

For a franchise that has spent almost five decades expanding its own universe, Star Wars is now officially stepping into another one.
