REPORT: Amazon MGM’s ‘James Bond’ Reboot Finds Its New 007
The search for the next James Bond may have just taken a major step forward, with a familiar face from one of television’s biggest spy dramas reportedly emerging as a serious contender for the iconic role.
Who Is the Next James Bond?
Jack Lowden, best known for playing River Cartwright in Slow Horses, is reportedly being “strongly considered” to become the next 007. The claim comes from British television presenter and author Richard Osman, who discussed the casting on his The Rest Is Entertainment podcast (via Metro).

“The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden,” Osman said, while stressing that this does not mean the actor has secured the part. “It is definitively not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing.”
Lowden, 36, has also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (2017) and the Netflix thriller Calibre (2018). He is married to Irish actress Saoirse Ronan.
Osman’s co-host, Marine Hyde, also backed the possibility of Lowden taking over the famous tuxedo, saying, “I think Jack Lowden would be an incredible Bond. He’s got real Daniel Craig energy”.

Whether or not Lowden ultimately lands the role, Amazon MGM may already have its next Bond in plain sight. Whoever takes up the mantle of Bond, the actor would become the seventh performer to officially portray the character in the film series, following Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
Craig’s five-film tenure concluded with No Time to Die (2021), leaving Amazon MGM with the difficult task of deciding who will lead the franchise’s next era.
Interestingly, producer Amy Pascal recently suggested that fans could learn the identity of the new Bond before the end of 2026. “I would say the end of the year is a good bet,” she told Deadline, adding that the new iteration of Bond has “got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different.”
The untitled Bond movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Steven Knight writing the screenplay.
