A dining space that EPCOT guests waited weeks to get back has been taken away again. Walt Disney World Resort offered no explanation whatsoever for the sudden reversal.
Three Days Open
The right-side dining room of the Lotus Blossom Café in EPCOT’s China World Showcase Pavilion reopened on August 9 after a multi-week refurbishment. By August 12, rolling planters were back in place, blocking it off again. WDWNT reported the closure and shared a photo of the barriers, which appeared with no accompanying statement or timeline from Walt Disney World Resort.
Three days between reopening and re-closing is an unusually short window, even by the standards of Walt Disney World Resort’s phased refurbishment approach.
The Summer-Long Pattern at the Lotus Blossom Café
The Lotus Blossom Café has been navigating construction in stages since earlier this summer. The left-side dining room underwent its own refurbishment first, emerging with new, larger beige floor tiles, while the rest of the space remained largely unchanged. When the right side closed shortly after, the same tile replacement followed. Temporary picnic tables were installed along a nearby walkway during both closure periods to maintain seating capacity for Lotus Blossom Café guests throughout.
When the right-side dining room reopened on August 9, and those overflow tables disappeared from the walkway, the reasonable assumption was that the project had run its course. That assumption lasted seventy-two hours.
What Guests Can Still Access
The Lotus Blossom Café remains open and continues to serve guests despite the closure of the right-side dining room. The left-side dining room continues to operate normally. Whether the temporary overflow picnic tables will return to the walkway during this second right-side closure hasn’t been confirmed, nor has Walt Disney World Resort indicated how long the space will remain blocked or whether additional phases of the project are planned.
