Jean Grey Will Return Later This Year Following Surprise MCU Debut

Jean Grey is returning later this year following her surprise Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).

However, when the iconic X-Men mutant appears next, it won’t be Sadie Sink reprising the role.

Jean Grey Will Return in Wolverine

Instead, another version of Jean Grey is set to feature in Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming PlayStation 5 title from Insomniac Games, bringing one of Marvel’s most recognizable mutants back into the spotlight once again.

Unlike Sink’s version, the Jean Grey featured in Marvel’s Wolverine exists in a completely separate universe and has no connection to Marvel Studios’ cinematic timeline. Even so, the timing couldn’t be better, with audiences still talking about Sink’s surprise MCU debut.

Spoiler Warning for Spider-Man: Brand New Day

After months of speculation, Marvel finally confirmed that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink had joined the MCU as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The reveal instantly made her the latest actress to inherit one of Marvel’s most iconic roles.

Before Sink, Famke Janssen portrayed Jean Grey throughout much of 20th Century Fox’s original X-Men franchise, first appearing in X-Men (2000) before reprising the role in X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). Years later, Sophie Turner took over as a younger version of the telepath in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019).

Now, with one live-action Jean Grey beginning her MCU journey and another preparing to appear in Insomniac’s upcoming video game, Marvel fans are getting two very different interpretations of the beloved mutant almost simultaneously.

Recently, during San Diego Comic-Con, per Deadline, Marvel’s Wolverine narrative director Walt Williams and actress Krizia Bajos, who provides Jean Grey’s voice and motion capture performance, discussed the character’s role in the game, offering fans a closer look at this new interpretation.

While details remain under wraps, Jean’s inclusion should come as little surprise given her long and complicated relationship with Logan across Marvel Comics.

From their years together as X-Men teammates to one of Marvel’s most enduring romantic storylines, Jean Grey and Wolverine have shared a connection for decades, making her appearance a natural fit for Insomniac’s original story.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in theaters.

Marvel’s Wolverine releases on September 15.
