‘Spider-Man’ SPOILER: Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey Signals Giant Shift for ‘X-Men’ and ‘Deadpool 4’
Marvel fans finally have an answer to one of the biggest casting mysteries surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), but that answer has created even more questions.
After months of rumors, Sadie Sink’s role is no longer a secret. The film confirms that she plays Jean Grey, bringing another major mutant into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Phase 6 continues moving forward.
Marvel has not announced where Jean will appear next. Still, the final moments of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), combined with plans for a future X-Men reboot and reports about another Deadpool movie, have already sparked theories about how Sink could fit into Marvel’s long-term plans.
Jean Grey’s MCU Story Begins With Damage Control
Marvel does not introduce Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) through Charles Xavier or an established team of mutants. Instead, the film gives her a much more personal reason to enter Spider-Man’s world.
Damage Control kidnaps Jean’s older sister, Sara Grey, and begins experimenting on her. Jean responds by attacking the organization to find and rescue Sara.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) initially sees Jean as a threat. He does not understand why she is targeting Damage Control, and he eventually turns her over to the organization.
Peter later discovers what really happened. After learning about Sara’s kidnapping and the experiments, he helps Jean escape. The two then work together to stop Damage Control and save those caught in its plans.
Jean eventually returns the favor by helping Peter. Once the immediate conflict ends, however, she does not remain with him.
The last time audiences see Jean, she is traveling on a bus toward an unknown destination.
That Final Scene Leaves the Door Open
Marvel never reveals where Jean is going, which makes the ending especially interesting.
Many fans believe the bus scene could point toward Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The film does not confirm that destination, and Jean never names Xavier or the school.
Still, leaving her future open gives Marvel several options. Jean could join other mutants, continue traveling alone, or appear in another MCU project before the new X-Men film arrives.
That uncertainty has become even more noticeable because Sink has not been officially announced for Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel’s Returning X-Men Could Be a Separate Group
Marvel has confirmed that several actors from Fox’s earlier X-Men movies will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. That returning group includes Cyclops (James Marsden), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).
Jean Grey, Storm, and Rogue have not been included in those announcements.
Marvel may still be hiding additional cast members. The studio has often kept cameos and major appearances out of early marketing, so an unannounced role remains possible.
However, the current lineup has led some fans to believe Marvel may use Avengers: Doomsday to revisit veteran Fox-era characters while saving younger versions of other mutants for its eventual reboot.
If that theory proves accurate, Sink’s Jean could become part of a separate generation created specifically for the MCU.
A Younger Mutant Team May Be Taking Shape
Jean is portrayed as a teenager in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), which suggests Marvel may want its future mutants to begin their journeys at a younger age.
That approach could eventually introduce younger versions of Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, and other familiar characters around Jean.
There are already theories about where some of those characters might first appear. Ryan Coogler has supposedly played a role in casting Storm for the MCU, fueling speculation that she could debut in Black Panther 3.
Rogue’s introduction remains even less clear. Some fans have suggested that she could first appear in a possible Deadpool 4 as an antagonist who is misunderstood rather than truly villainous.
Marvel has not confirmed either idea, but introducing mutants across several projects would allow the studio to build the team gradually.
Deadpool Could Help Introduce Younger Mutants
A future Deadpool movie could give Marvel another place to feature Jean or other young mutants before the X-Men reboot.
Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) has already shared major storylines with younger characters. Firefist (Julian Dennison) played a central role in Deadpool 2 (2018), while Laura Kinney/X-23 (Dafne Keen) became an important part of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
That history makes the theory understandable. Jean could appear in a supporting role, or Marvel could introduce another mutant through a brief cameo.
There is currently no evidence confirming Sink for Deadpool 4. The possibility remains fan speculation, but the franchise has already shown that Deadpool can help younger characters move into larger Marvel stories.
Jean Grey’s Next Appearance Remains Unconfirmed
Marvel has not announced Sadie Sink for any project beyond Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).
She could still appear during Phase 6 without being included in an official cast announcement. Marvel frequently keeps surprises under wraps until a movie reaches theaters.
For now, the developing X-Men film appears to be the most natural destination for Jean Grey. A future Deadpool appearance is also possible, though far less certain.
Marvel has confirmed Jean’s arrival, but nearly everything about her future remains open. That gives the studio room to connect her to Charles Xavier, Deadpool, or an entirely new group of mutants when the time is right.
