Animal Kingdom’s New Kangaroo Experience Could Soon Look Very Different

One of the newest additions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is still in its early stages, but Disney has already revealed bigger plans for the experience.

Jumping Junction, the new kangaroo and wallaby habitat that recently debuted at the park, is currently operating under limited access. Only small groups of guests are being invited into the habitat at a time, creating a more controlled environment for both visitors and animals. However, Disney says that won’t always be the case.

According to Disney, the ultimate goal is to eventually allow all guests to walk through the habitat and experience the animals in a much more immersive way. The current setup is simply the first step toward that future.

Taking Things Slowly

Disney’s animal care teams are approaching the rollout carefully, and for good reason.

Right now, guests who enter the habitat do so as part of small, keeper-led groups. Before entering, visitors receive a brief orientation explaining the rules and expectations. The actual walk lasts only a few minutes, but it offers a unique opportunity to observe kangaroos and wallabies in a shared environment.

The reason Disney is limiting access comes down to the animals themselves.

Rather than immediately exposing the habitat to thousands of daily visitors, Disney is giving the kangaroos and wallabies time to adjust. Animal care teams are monitoring how they react to guests moving through the space and are allowing the animals to determine the pace of the expansion.

That patient approach isn’t surprising. Animal Kingdom has long built its reputation on putting animal welfare first, and Jumping Junction appears to be following that same philosophy.

A Unique Addition to Animal Kingdom

The habitat is home to Western Grey Kangaroos, Red Kangaroos, and Red-necked Wallabies. Guests walking through the area can observe the animals up close while remaining on a designated pathway. Touching the animals is not permitted, but the experience still offers a level of immersion rarely found at Walt Disney World.

The experience also ties into Bluey’s Wild World, helping bring a bit of Australia to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Several of the kangaroos currently have joeys in their pouches, giving guests an even more memorable wildlife encounter.

The Future of Jumping Junction

Disney has not announced a timeline for opening the habitat to everyone, but officials have made it clear that broader access remains the goal.

When that day arrives, Jumping Junction could become one of the most distinctive experiences in Animal Kingdom. While Disney is known for rides and attractions, some of the park’s most unforgettable moments come from close encounters with animals.

If Disney succeeds in expanding access while maintaining a comfortable environment for the kangaroos and wallabies, Jumping Junction may quickly become a must-visit stop for Animal Kingdom guests.
