Disney+ Prepares to Flood Library Next Month With ‘Avatar’ and Massive June Drop

Disney+ is heading into June with a surprisingly loaded schedule, and one movie already stands far above the rest. After months of waiting, fans will finally get the chance to stream the newest chapter in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise from home.

That alone would make for a big month.

Instead, Disney+ is stacking June with returning series, Hulu content, documentaries, animated premieres, sports programming, and new Disney-focused specials. The company clearly wants the streaming service to stay part of the conversation while Disney prepares for a huge summer overall.

Disney’s Big Summer Extends Beyond Streaming

The next few months are shaping up to be important for Disney across the board.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues building hype ahead of release, while Pixar prepares to bring audiences back for Toy Story 5. Disney also has its live-action Moana remake on the way after the original animated movie became one of streaming’s biggest family hits.

Even with those theatrical releases approaching, Disney+ is not slowing down.

Instead, the platform is rolling out fresh content throughout June to keep subscribers engaged between major movie releases.

Disney+ Starts June With Animation and Sports

Early June focuses heavily on family-friendly programming.

Season 2 of Disney Jr. Ariel – The Little Mermaid arrives June 1, continuing Ariel’s animated adventures under the sea. Disney appears to be positioning the series as a major summer option for younger viewers.

At the same time, Hulu on Disney+ adds Doctor on the Edge. The series follows a talented surgeon who suddenly finds himself rebuilding his life on a remote island after everything falls apart around him. Its more dramatic tone helps balance out Disney+’s otherwise family-focused lineup.

Sports continue expanding across the service as well. Throughout June, subscribers can access WNBA coverage, PGA events, college baseball, Banana Ball games, and NBA Draft programming thanks to ESPN integration.

Disney clearly wants Disney+ to offer more than just movies and nostalgia-driven content.

Pixar and Disney Parks Step Into the Spotlight

Midway through June, Disney+ begins shifting toward original specials and franchise programming.

On June 10, Dragon Striker premieres with all episodes available at launch. The animated series combines sports competition with fantasy storytelling, creating a fast-paced binge option for younger audiences during summer break.

That same day also brings The Magic Behind Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. The special explores Disney’s newest resort project while showing how Imagineers helped bring the expansion to life.

Disney+ also launches Pixar Stream in June, offering nonstop access to Pixar movies, shorts, and related series. With Toy Story 5 approaching theaters, the addition feels perfectly timed.

Disney has seen how strongly Pixar performs on streaming, especially during school breaks, and June appears designed to capitalize on that trend.

Avatar Closes Out the Month in a Huge Way

Disney saved its biggest release for late June.

On June 24, Avatar: Fire and Ash officially arrives on Disney+. The movie continues the saga of Jake Sully and Neytiri while introducing the Ash People, a Na’vi group angry with Eywa after losing their homeland.

Disney appears fully aware of how important this streaming debut could become.

The film earned major box-office success after its December 2025 release, and fans have waited months for its streaming release date to be officially announced.

Disney+ is also pairing the movie with additional franchise and Disney-focused content. Season 3 of Behind the Attraction premieres the same day, focusing on Disney Cruise Line and Disney Destiny.

Then, Hulu via Disney+ releases Season 5 of FX’s The Bear on June 25, giving subscribers another high-profile addition immediately afterward.

Disney+ Looks Ready for a Strong Summer

June suddenly feels much bigger for Disney+ than many subscribers probably expected.

Between Hulu programming, sports coverage, animated premieres, Pixar additions, Disney Parks specials, and Avatar: Fire and Ash, the platform now has content arriving throughout the entire month instead of relying on one single release.

Still, there is little doubt which title Disney expects to drive the biggest attention.

Whenever audiences return to Pandora, people tend to show up.
