Walt Disney’s Original Main Street, U.S.A., Looks Different This Summer

The most patriotic stretch of any Disney park just got its annual red, white, and blue transformation.

WDWNT reported on May 19 that Americana-themed decorations have made their seasonal debut along Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland Park, right on schedule ahead of Memorial Day weekend. With the United States’ 250th anniversary arriving in July, Disneyland Resort is leaning into the celebration accordingly.

The lampposts lining Main Street, U.S.A., are dressed in long banners featuring a blue top section with a circle of small stars surrounding a central large star, with red and white stripes flowing down below. Small American flags — the kind typically waved at parades — hang above each banner just beneath the streetlights, adding a festive touch at eye level and above.

Bunting has gone up across several of the street’s most recognizable facades. City Hall, the Emporium, the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor, the Carnation Café, and several other buildings are now draped in red, white, and blue fabric hanging from artificial balconies, roof overhangs, and architectural details throughout the street.

Not every corner of Main Street, U.S.A, received the full patriotic treatment this year. Ongoing construction on several buildings has kept decorators away from portions of the street. The Coca-Cola Refreshment Corner, Penny Arcade, Candy Palace, and parts of Carnation Café are currently surrounded by scaffolding wrapped in decorative scrim and construction walls, leaving those facades undecorated for now.

The shops, restaurants, and other offerings inside all remain open throughout the refurbishment.

A Bigger Celebration Taking Shape

The Main Street, U.S.A., decorations are part of a broader patriotic celebration that is building across the United States Disney parks. Soarin’ Over America — the updated overlay of the fan-favorite flight simulator attraction — is set to debut at Walt Disney World Resort and EPCOT on May 26 before launching at Disneyland Resort on July 2, just in time for Independence Day and the country’s 250th birthday celebration.
