Disney Wipes Entire Dinner Menu From Cruise Line Fleet

Let’s talk about cruise dinners, because on a Disney ship they are kind of a whole production.

Disney Cruise Line uses rotational dining, which means you hop between themed dining rooms throughout your sailing while your serving team tags along. New room, new vibe, new menu. Night after night. It’s one of the things fans love most about cruising with Mickey.

But here’s the thing about a menu that keeps changing. Not everyone wants surprises at dinner. Some guests have food sensitivities. Some have strict diets. Some just have a kid who will eat exactly one thing, and that thing is plain chicken.

For those cruisers, the Lighter Note Offerings section was a lifesaver. Simple steak, chicken, and salmon, with veggies and rice or a baked potato, waiting on the menu every night.

Was. Past tense.

Here’s what you need to know, fast.

  • The Lighter Note section is gone. Disney Cruise Line’s refreshed rotational dining menus, introduced in May 2026, no longer list it.
  • The menus got a new layout. Appetizers, soups, and salads are now grouped as “Small Plates,” and main dishes live under a single “Entrees” heading.
  • The steak survived. It’s now a regular entree.
  • Chicken and salmon mostly didn’t. A guest on the Disney Treasure says both now need to be pre-ordered the night before.
  • Asking isn’t a sure thing. Some cruisers say servers can still make plain chicken or salmon on request, but it varies by ship and sailing, and at least one recent Disney Wish guest came up empty.

Longtime cruisers will remember the old trio well. Here’s how each dish fared in the refresh, based on WDW News Today’s breakdown of the new menus.

Dish Before Now
Sirloin steak Lighter Note, with veggies and rice or a baked potato Regular entree with set sides
Roasted chicken Lighter Note, with veggies and rice or a baked potato Removed from several menus; a regular entree at Lumiere’s, Triton’s, Royal Court, and Royal Palace
Salmon Lighter Note, with veggies and rice or a baked potato Removed from most menus; a Baked Salmon Fillet with jasmine rice and bok choy on the first-night menu

According to WDW News Today, the overhaul was meant to make the classic ships’ dining feel more like the Wish-class ships. Since lineups can differ by restaurant and ship, double-check the menus for your own sailing.

Straight From the Dining Room

The change is already catching guests off guard, and two reports show just how much it can matter.

On the Disney Treasure: A Reddit user sounded the alarm mid-cruise. “We’re on the treasure this week and found out the roasted chicken and salmon have been removed from the menu and now need to be preordered the night before. The steak is still on the menu. Just wanted to let you all know since these items are important to lots of sensitive eaters.”

On the Disney Wish: During a recent sailing, a guest at one table needed salmon because of dietary restrictions. With the dish off the menu, they weren’t able to get it.

That second story is the one that really stings. When you have dietary needs, “just order something else” is not always an option. For those guests, a single missing dish can turn dinner into a real problem.

Your Burning Questions, Answered

Can I still get plain chicken or salmon? Possibly, but plan for it. On the Treasure, a guest reports these now need to be pre-ordered the night before. Disney’s planDisney panel told a guest asking about the salmon that it can still be requested, but it is subject to availability and may need advance notice.

Can I just ask at dinner? You can try. Some cruisers say servers have made it happen. Others haven’t been so lucky, so don’t make it your only plan.

Who should I talk to? Your serving team. They follow you from restaurant to restaurant all cruise long, so let them know about any dietary needs on the very first night.

Is there anything simple still on the menu? Yes. The sirloin steak is now a regular entree, so it remains a familiar fallback.

Does this affect every ship? The change has reached many Disney Cruise Line ships, and guests are reporting the change on both the Treasure and the Wish. Exact menus can vary, so check yours before you sail.

Okay, Now Dish

We love a menu refresh as much as anyone, and the new small plates may well tempt the foodies out there. But losing the Lighter Note section is a big deal for guests who need simple, safe options. A little planning now can save a lot of dinnertime stress later.

So let’s hear it. Have you sailed since the menus changed? Did you manage to snag plain chicken or salmon, or did you have to pre-order (or go without)? Tell us your ship and your story in the comments. And if you’ve got a favorite new dish from the updated menus, spill that too. We’re taking notes for our next sailing!
