Disney World Guests Suddenly Gain a Major Advantage Before Summer Heat Hits

Summer is almost here at Walt Disney World, and Disney is preparing for the crowds in a pretty major way.

For the first time in quite a while, both Disney water parks are officially operating at the same time. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has now reopened after its seasonal refurbishment, joining Blizzard Beach just before the summer travel rush fully arrives.

For guests planning vacations over the next several months, this is actually a much bigger deal than it may seem.

Disney World summers can feel intense. Between the Florida heat, afternoon storms, and massive crowds filling the parks daily, many families eventually reach a point where they need a break from long attraction waits and packed walkways. That is exactly where the water parks come in.

Instead of spending another full day standing in line at Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, families now have two different options to cool off without ever leaving Disney property.

And honestly, Disney could not have picked a better time to reopen Typhoon Lagoon.

The resort is heading into one of its busiest stretches of the year. Summer vacation season is beginning, new entertainment offerings are rolling out across the parks, and Disney is still dealing with major construction and transformation projects in several areas of the resort.

Magic Kingdom alone is seeing huge changes tied to Frontierland and the future Piston Peak expansion. EPCOT continues adjusting attractions and seasonal offerings. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing for more summer entertainment while still managing large crowds around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land.

Adding both water parks back into the mix gives Disney another way to spread guests across property instead of funneling everyone into the four main parks every single day.

That matters more than people realize.

Anyone who has visited Disney World during June or July knows how exhausting those afternoons can become. The heat reflects off the pavement, wait times spike, and even experienced Disney guests start looking for air conditioning after a few hours.

Water parks completely change the pace of a vacation.

Typhoon Lagoon offers a more tropical atmosphere, with its massive wave pool, lazy river, and beach setting making it feel almost like a mini vacation inside a Disney vacation. Blizzard Beach brings a totally different vibe with its snowy ski-resort theme and some of Disney’s more thrilling water attractions.

Having both available again gives guests real flexibility.

Disney is also bringing back its free water park benefit for Resort hotel guests this summer. Guests checking into eligible Disney hotels between late May and early September can visit one of the water parks on arrival day without paying extra admission.

That perk alone is probably going to drive a lot of traffic toward the water parks this year.

Arrival day at Disney can sometimes feel awkward since guests may not want to waste a full theme park ticket before their room is ready. Water park access gives families something relaxing to do immediately after arriving on property.

It also helps Disney reduce pressure on the theme parks during some of the busiest hours of the day.

For longtime Disney fans, seeing both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon open together again almost feels like a return to normal. For years, guests became used to Disney rotating the parks seasonally instead of running both at once.

Now, with summer crowds about to explode across Central Florida, Disney appears ready to fully utilize every part of the resort again.

And once those July temperatures hit Orlando in full force, guests are probably going to be very thankful both water parks are finally back open.
