Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ Land Gets Permanent Update Overnight

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park looks, sounds, and feels different today than it did 24 hours ago. Unlike seasonal overlays or limited-time events, these changes are here to stay.

When guests arrived at Disneyland Park on Wednesday, April 29, they stepped into a version of Batuu that no longer exists entirely in the sequel era. Half of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has shifted back in time to the Galactic Civil War era of the original trilogy, running parallel to the other half, which remains set in the sequel timeline. The result is a Batuu where characters, shops, dialogue, and even the background music reflect two distinct chapters of the Star Wars saga at once.

The most visible change is who’s walking the streets. Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader all made their first regular daytime appearances in the land on Wednesday. X (formerly Twitter) user @laughingplace was there to document the debut, describing Leia’s arrival as “our first time seeing Leia in the daylight.”

The user also captured the Sith Lord’s entrance into Batuu:

Imperial stormtroopers were also on patrol and, per @LaughingPlace, came equipped with “all-new dialogue” for the occasion.

Southern California Disney Park guests attached to the sequel era won’t be too disappointed. Ahsoka Tano, The Mandalorian, Grogu, and Rey are all staying in the land, joining returnees like Chewbacca and R2-D2 who bridge both timelines.

John Williams Takes Over the Speakers

The background music throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was overhauled overnight with tracks pulled from John Williams’ original trilogy scores. Main Title” plays at the land’s entrances, “Cantina Band” sets the atmosphere near Oga’s Cantina, and pieces like “Han Solo and the Princess” fill the rest of Batuu throughout the day. @ScottGustin captured the audio transformation on video Wednesday, writing:

First Order Cargo is now Black Spire Surplus, described by Disney Parks Blog as “a military salvage operation offering artifacts from across the history of the galaxy, including Imperial and Rebel items from the Galactic Civil War.”

The transition isn’t fully complete yet; First Order merchandise was still visible on the shelves on Wednesday while the store works through its inventory changeover. A Disney representative confirmed to @LaughingPlace that the shift is ongoing:

A Disney representative has reached out to let us know that Batuu is still transitioning, and this First Order / Kylo Ren merch won’t be here forever.

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is being updated with relics suited to an earlier era of the Star Wars timeline, while Droid Depot has passed to an earlier generation of the Mubo family, offering BB-style droid prototypes for guests to build.

More to Come in May

The overnight transformation sets the stage for a busy upcoming month. May the Fourth brings limited-time food, beverages, and merchandise to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge throughout the month of May. On May 22, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run debuts a new mission storyline tied to The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), opening in theaters the same day.
