May 6 Marks a Very Important Chapter for Disney World’s Hollywood Studios

The Walt Disney World Resort is preparing for a major entertainment update this spring, as Disney’s Hollywood Studios gets ready to debut a reimagined version of one of its most recognizable thrill attractions.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is undergoing a full creative overhaul, shifting away from its long-standing Aerosmith theme and stepping into a new story centered on The Muppets. The attraction will now feature Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, who take over the spotlight as the stars of a chaotic Hollywood race against time after mysteriously disappearing before a major concert.

The storyline places guests directly into the action as the band goes missing, triggering a high-speed search through Hollywood. The updated experience also introduces several celebrity cameo appearances, including Awkwafina, Danny Trejo, Neil Patrick Harris, and Weird Al Yankovic, all woven into the attraction to enhance the feel of a large-scale music industry event.

Music continues to be the driving force of the coaster experience, with a rotating selection of five tracks that change each ride. Guests may hear “Song 2,” “Born To Be Wild” featuring Camilla the Chicken, “Love Rollercoaster” featuring Jennifer Hudson and Questlove, “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)” featuring Def Leppard, or “Walking on Sunshine” featuring Kelly Clarkson. Each launch delivers a different combination of energy and soundtrack, keeping the Electric Mayhem’s unpredictable style at the forefront.

Before the attraction opens to all guests, Disney is rolling out early access opportunities for cast members, Disney Vacation Club members, and Annual Passholders. Cast members will be the first group able to register, with sign-ups beginning May 6 for select preview dates that include admission for themselves and up to three guests, per new reports.

This preview strategy follows Disney’s typical operational approach for large-scale attraction updates, allowing the company to refine guest flow and final details before the official opening. Recent examples at Magic Kingdom, such as the reopening process for Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, have shown that these early access periods often lead to soft openings for broader guest groups, meaning the May 26 date may not be the first opportunity for the general public to ride.

While the ride system itself remains unchanged, guests can still expect the same signature launches and inversions that defined the original attraction. The major updates are focused on storyline, visual design, and immersive environments, with refreshed queue areas, preshow content, and onboard scenes designed to fully integrate The Muppets into the experience.

The transition represents one of the more significant thematic shifts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in recent years, replacing a long-running rock music theme with a more character-driven narrative. The Electric Mayhem now anchors the attraction, bringing their familiar comedic energy into a fast-paced Hollywood storyline built around music, mayhem, and celebrity appearances.

As anticipation builds, additional details regarding exact preview windows and possible operational soft openings are expected to be announced closer to launch.

What remains clear is that Disney is positioning this update as a major refresh for one of its signature thrill rides, blending high-speed coaster elements with a completely new entertainment concept centered on The Muppets.

At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
