If You Are at Disney World Today Tropical Storm Force Winds Are About to Ruin Your Day

If you are at Walt Disney World today or planning to head there this afternoon, you need to stop and read this first.

A formal Wind Advisory is in effect for the entire Walt Disney World Resort area right now, with gusts expected to reach up to 45 miles per hour through midnight tonight. That number is not just an uncomfortable breeze. Meteorologists define tropical storm conditions as sustained winds between 39 and 73 miles per hour. The gusts hitting Disney World today fall directly in that range, and guests inside the parks are already feeling the difference.

What the Advisory Actually Says for Disney

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory that went into effect at 11 a.m. today, April 7, 2026, and runs through midnight. Forecasters are calling for sustained northeast winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts reaching up to 45 miles per hour at their strongest points throughout the day.

The advisory covers Orange County, where Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney Springs are located, and Osceola County, where Animal Kingdom and several Disney resort hotels sit. Seminole and Lake Counties are also included.

This wind event is part of a larger weather system moving through Central Florida that will bring one to three inches of rainfall between today and Thursday with multiple rounds of heavy showers and potential thunderstorms expected as a second disturbance moves through the area tomorrow.

What Is Already Being Affected at Disney

Walt Disney World has not announced official park closures, but conditions of this magnitude consistently result in real-time adjustments that can significantly alter a guest’s day.

The Disney Skyliner is the most immediately vulnerable. The gondola system operates at an elevation and is regularly suspended when gusts exceed safety thresholds. Guests relying on the Disney Skyliner for transportation between resorts and parks today should have an alternative plan ready and avoid scheduling too tightly around gondola availability.

Fireworks shows are at serious risk of cancellation. High-altitude fireworks and 45 miles per hour gusts do not coexist well from a safety standpoint, and guests who are specifically visiting tonight for a fireworks experience should monitor the My Disney Experience app closely for updates throughout the evening.

Festival of Fantasy and other outdoor parades and stage shows may be modified or canceled during the strongest gusts of the day. Outdoor attractions with elevated tracks, including Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, may experience temporary operational pauses when winds hit their peak.

When Things Get Better

The stormy conditions are expected to persist through Thursday before the system pushes out of the region. Guests with park days scheduled for the weekend are looking at a significantly better experience with clear skies and temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s expected by Sunday.

For today, pack a sturdy poncho, secure any loose items, including hats and stroller covers, and keep the My Disney Experience app open for real-time updates throughout the day.

Tropical storm-force winds at Disney World are not a normal Tuesday until after June 1, when hurricane season officially starts. Today is not a normal Tuesday.
