Marvel Quietly Reveals Spider-Man’s Next Major MCU Threat
Spider-Man fans are getting closer to Tom Holland’s next Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is only a few months away, and anticipation keeps growing as the release date approaches. Since Marvel Studios first revealed the project, fans have spent months debating what direction Peter Parker’s next story might take.
One question dominates almost every discussion: who will Spider-Man fight next?
Spider-Man movies often succeed because of their villains, and Marvel has built a reputation for introducing surprising enemies along the way. Because of that track record, many fans believe Brand New Day could bring one of the most crowded villain rosters the character has faced yet.
The timing makes the mystery even more compelling. At the end of Peter’s last adventure, his life completely changed. The world forgot Peter Parker existed, his closest relationships vanished, and the Avengers safety net he once relied on disappeared.
Peter now enters a completely different phase of life.
Without the support system he once had, Spider-Man must navigate a much lonelier version of heroism. That shift opens the door for new threats, and recent developments suggest several villains may already be waiting for him.

Peter Parker Has Already Faced Major Enemies
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has never had an easy road in the MCU.
His first solo story arrived in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), where Peter balanced high school life with his responsibilities as a hero. The film introduced Adrian Toomes, also known as Vulture, a criminal who weaponized salvaged alien technology to become a powerful enemy.
The next chapter, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), expanded Peter’s story beyond New York. While traveling across Europe, he dealt with the fallout of Avengers: Endgame (2019) and encountered Quentin Beck, the villain known as Mysterio. Beck used illusion technology to fabricate massive disasters and manipulate the public.
Peter’s life spiraled further in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). After Mysterio exposed Peter’s identity to the world, Peter asked Doctor Strange to reverse the situation. The spell misfired and cracked open the Multiverse, allowing villains from other Spider-Man universes to appear.
Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and the Lizard all arrived, turning the film into one of the most villain-heavy superhero stories ever made. In the end, Peter sacrificed everything by allowing Doctor Strange to erase him from everyone’s memory.
That decision reset Peter’s life and left him completely on his own.

Marvel Is Hinting at More Enemies
Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears ready to continue that new chapter.
Marvel has begun teasing the possibility that Peter Parker will face multiple threats in the upcoming film. While the primary villain remains a mystery, early signs suggest Spider-Man may encounter a surprisingly large group of enemies.
Peter already battled several powerful foes across his trilogy and his appearances alongside the Avengers, including events tied to Josh Brolin’s Thanos. Brand New Day could push the character even further.
Reports suggest some of the villains may operate at the street level as mercenaries and criminals. That shift could move Spider-Man’s story back toward the gritty side of New York rather than focusing on global threats.
At the same time, some rumors hint at much bigger chaos. One surprising possibility involves Mark Ruffalo appearing as a Savage Hulk, which would instantly create a far more dangerous situation for Spider-Man.
Marvel has confirmed little so far, but the speculation continues to grow.

Two More Villains Make a Shocking Appearance
The first hints of new villains didn’t arrive through a trailer. Instead, they surfaced through merchandise connected to Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The products revealed two comic book villains: Boomerang and Tarantula.
Fred Myers, known as Boomerang, started as a professional baseball pitcher before becoming a mercenary. In Marvel Comics, he uses specially designed boomerangs that range from razor-edged weapons to explosive devices.
The second character, Tarantula, is Anton Miguel Rodriguez, a South American mercenary who wears a spider-themed costume. Unlike Spider-Man, Tarantula has no superpowers and relies entirely on combat skills and weaponry.
These villains represent a more grounded side of Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery and could signal a return to street-level crime stories.

Rumors Continue to Grow
Even with Boomerang and Tarantula revealed, they may only represent a small portion of the villain lineup.
Several other characters have been rumored to appear. Chameleon often tops that list. As one of Spider-Man’s earliest comic enemies, the master of disguise could fit perfectly into a story built around secrecy and identity.
Another rumor suggests that Harry Osborn or Ned Leeds could take a darker path and become a villain. That twist would create a deeply personal conflict for Peter.
Other rumored names include Ramrod, the strange villain 8-Ball, and even the Punisher. Meanwhile, speculation continues around Savage Hulk potentially entering the story.
Marvel has not confirmed most of these names, but fan discussions continue to expand.

The Villains Currently Linked to the Film
Despite the growing rumor list, only two villains are technically confirmed so far.
Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion and played by Michael Mando, first appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and hinted at future revenge against Spider-Man.
Lonnie Lincoln, better known as Tombstone and played by Marvin Jones III, also joins the story. In the comics, Tombstone runs a powerful criminal empire in New York.
With Peter Parker now navigating adulthood and a world that no longer remembers him, facing multiple enemies may define the next stage of his journey. Spider-Man no longer has mentors guiding him. He must face whatever comes next entirely on his own.
