Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Muppet Transformation Already Underway at Hollywood Studios
Disney has begun visible work on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s transformation to The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The upside-down car displayed at the attraction entrance is receiving a makeover, with the side facing Tower of Terror sanded down and painted with red flames outlined in orange.
Work started just days after the Aerosmith version officially closed on March 1, 2026.
Visible Progress
The upside-down car serves as a landmark and photo opportunity that thousands of guests pass daily while navigating Sunset Boulevard. The side facing Tower of Terror has been sanded to remove the previous finish and now features red flames with orange outlining, creating a fiery aesthetic departing from Aerosmith branding.
The side facing the attraction hasn’t received any work yet, demonstrating the progressive nature of the makeover as crews work section by section.
Concept art hasn’t shown what the car will ultimately look like once complete. However, the ride’s iconic guitar near the entrance will receive a psychedelic Electric Mayhem-inspired makeover. The piano motif at the guitar’s base will include one gold key as a nod to Dr. Teeth’s gold tooth, creating a character reference Muppets fans will recognize.
The New Experience
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will open this summer with a completely reimagined storyline. Guests will join the Electric Mayhem, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and more Muppets at G-Force Records, a recording studio bought by Scooter’s uncle, real estate tycoon and Muppet Theatre owner J.P. Grosse.
Scooter runs the studio, and guests will meet the manager in animatronic form in the new pre-show, representing a technological upgrade from the previous video-based pre-show featuring Aerosmith.
Guests on a V.I.P. tour will see the Electric Mayhem delayed in the recording studio before heading to their concert across town. Muppet Labs has souped up a limousine to get guests across Hollywood in time for the concert, maintaining the super-stretch limo concept while adding Muppet Labs branding.
The scenery and landmarks will feature a Muppet twist, transforming the Hollywood backdrop into something more comedic. Guests will hear the Electric Mayhem playing iconic hits during the ride.
Rapid Map Change
Less than 24 hours after Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith officially closed, Disney released a new Hollywood Studios park map, completely removing the Aerosmith version from all guest-facing materials.
The updated map now introduces branding for the upcoming Muppets version, with the back featuring a logo marking the “future home of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.”
Historically, Disney sometimes leaves closed attractions visible on maps for weeks or months during transformation phases. That didn’t happen here. The rapid removal shows Disney wants guests to think about the future version now rather than mourning the old one.
Strategic Approach for the Muppet Transformation
By swapping branding immediately, Disney avoids extended periods where the attraction feels absent, instead building anticipation for what comes next. The company wants guests arriving today to see a park evolving forward rather than one losing experiences.
Theme park maps reveal Disney’s strategic thinking about how the company wants guests to perceive the park. What appears or disappears on maps reflects decisions about guest psychology, guiding attention toward replacement rather than subtraction.
Mixed Reactions
Among longtime parkgoers, reactions have been mixed. Some appreciate the forward momentum and excitement about The Muppets receiving a major attraction. Others feel the rapid removal skips an important moment of reflection for a ride that defined Hollywood Studios for generations.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith served as a rite of passage for thrill seekers, often functioning as guests’ first upside-down Disney ride. Entire vacation traditions formed around the attraction.
The Broader Context of Muppet Transformation
The Muppets overlay continues Hollywood Studios’ evolution away from its original studio-tour identity toward immersive intellectual properties. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land already reshaped major sections of the park.
The rapid transformation demonstrates how quickly Disney parks can evolve today. Instead of construction lingering in limbo for years, Disney appears determined to keep momentum visible, showing active change rather than subtraction.
