New Information Comes To Light, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Facing Issues
Marvel is betting big on Avengers: Doomsday, but it sounds like the path to the film’s release isn’t without its obstacles.
The last time Marvel attempted a project on the same scale as Avengers: Doomsday, it had spent years laying narrative track. Avengers: Endgame was the endpoint of a carefully staged arc that rewarded long-term investment. The current saga has not benefited from the same patience.

Instead, the Multiverse Saga expanded outward. New heroes arrived quickly, legacy characters exited unevenly, and the concept of the Multiverse itself appeared inconsistently. Kang (Jonathan Majors) was axed as the primary antagonist after the actor was found guilty of reckless assault. By the time Doomsday entered production, Marvel was still defining what, exactly, it was building toward.
Doctor Doom is meant to be the answer. The villain, portrayed by Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr., is positioned as the saga’s central threat. Yet audiences have only seen him briefly, limited to a mid-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps that offered little context or emotional grounding.

A Film Carrying the Franchise’s Weight
Marvel’s decision to bring back directors Anthony and Joe Russo signals a desire for control. Their work on Infinity War and Endgame remains the studio’s creative high-water mark, and Doomsday is clearly chasing that same authority.
At the same time, the production has remained unusually opaque. Few confirmed plot details have surfaced, and Marvel has avoided outlining how its sprawling cast fits into a coherent structure.
That silence has fueled speculation that the film is still being shaped. Comments from cast members have reinforced that impression, particularly remarks from David Harbour confirming additional filming late in the process.

“I’ve been working a lot. Keeping busy,” Harbour said in an interview with ExtraTV. “And this little Avengers movie that we got in London. They got a couple more days they want to do.”
He continued, “I’m heading there soon [and] actually going to London for a couple of days. There’s a little more filming coming up for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.'”
Harbour emphasized enthusiasm rather than concern, highlighting his scenes with Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell, both of whom reprise characters tied to Thunderbolts*.

“The chemistry with Sebastian [Stan] and Wyatt [Russell] on set was fantastic,” Harbour said. “The Russos are killing it, and the whole thing is shaping up to be massive.”
Reshoots are not unusual for a Marvel production. Still, their confirmation underscores how much Doomsday must accomplish. It is expected to stabilize the MCU’s narrative direction ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars, its already-announced follow-up.
Marvel Bets Big on Nostalgia
Marvel’s promotional strategy has leaned carefully measured. No full trailer has been released, only short teasers designed to signal scale rather than story.
One such teaser reignited debate by featuring Steve Rogers, whose arc appeared complete in Endgame. Chris Evans’ return was met with excitement and skepticism in equal measure.

The same tension surrounds the film’s broader cast. Returning heroes reportedly include Thor, Shuri, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Johnny Storm, Gambit, and Loki. Characters from Fox’s former Marvel universe are also expected to appear.
Critics argue the lineup suggests overreliance on recognition. Supporters counter that a multiverse story demands legacy inclusion.
Several notable absences remain. Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man have not been confirmed. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is instead leading Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with appearances expected later in Secret Wars.

Leaks have filled the information vacuum. According to MyTimeToShineHello (via Comic Book Movie), the film reportedly opens with a Multiversal confrontation involving Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
“Avengers: Doomsday is not only the most epic Avengers movie, but it might be the most epic movie OF ALL TIME,” they wrote. “The opening scene alone tops any previous Avengers movie.”
The same source claims Doom initially allies with the Fantastic Four to combat Incursions threatening multiple realities.
“Victor asks the Fantastic Four for help with the Incursions,” they wrote. “They have a plan to fix everything.”
Marvel has not commented on the reports. Officially, Avengers: Doomsday remains scheduled for December 18, 2026.
