Lucasfilm Announces New ‘Star Wars’ Project Starring Jar Jar Binks and Kelleran Beq
It’s the crossover nobody saw coming — and the one Star Wars fans didn’t know they needed. Lucasfilm has announced a new one-shot comic starring both Jar Jar Binks and Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, the first time the two characters played by actor Ahmed Best will share the spotlight.
Revealed during Lucasfilm’s publishing panel at NYCC (New York Comic-Con), the upcoming comic, simply titled “Jar Jar Binks” #1, will see the two heroes team up for an all-new adventure set within the Star Wars galaxy.
The one-shot is being co-written by Ahmed Best himself alongside Marc Guggenheim (“Jedi Knights”), marking Best’s first time writing for the franchise he helped define more than two decades ago.
Ahmed Best’s Dual Legacy in Star Wars
Best, who famously provided the voice and motion-capture performance for the Gungan outcast Jar Jar Binks in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy opener Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), returned to the live-action side of the franchise in 2023’s The Mandalorian Season 3 as Kelleran Beq — the Jedi Master who rescued Grogu during Order 66, as revealed in flashback sequences.
Now, both of his iconic roles are set to collide for the first time, with the new story reportedly set to explore Jar Jar Binks facing the aftermath of granting Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) emergency powers, as seen in the films. Those actions were viewed by many fans as highly suspicious, which led to the hugely popular “Darth Jar Jar theory”.
Jar Jar Binks’ Appearances Over the Years
Outside live action, Best has provided the voice work for Jar Jar in animated shows such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 — 2020) and most recently in the Disney+ miniseries, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, in which he portrays Darth Jar Jar.
These small-screen appearances have helped to “rehabilitate” the character for some fans, although he still seemingly remains widely disliked by the vast majority.

Kelleran Beq’s Future in Star Wars
As for Master Beq, during the panel, Lucasfilm also revealed that the Jedi will appear in upcoming issues of “Star Wars: Jedi Knights”.
Whether or not he’ll return in live action remains to be seen. It’s possible that he could show up in a supporting role in the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026).
Either way, the announcement of “Jar Jar Binks” #1 signals a fascinating new chapter for Ahmed Best — an actor who went from one of the saga’s most divisive figures to one of its most celebrated comeback stories. With Best now both writing and starring in Star Wars again, it seems the galaxy far, far away hasn’t seen the last of either Jar Jar Binks or Kelleran Beq — and that’s reason enough for us to say, “Wesa excited!”
“Jar Jar Binks” #1 arrives this February 2026 with multiple variant covers featuring Beq and Binks, each paying tribute to the actor’s dual legacy within the Star Wars universe.
