Universal Orlando Resort is constantly evolving, and the need to pause a few rides for maintenance comes with that. However, one beloved attraction is closing permanently to make room for “a new experience.” If you’re heading to the parks this fall or winter, here’s a heads-up on what won’t be available during your trip.
Fall 2025 Refurbishments
1. Skull Island: Reign of Kong
Islands of Adventure
Closed August 20–29, 2025
This dark ride plunges guests into a jungle full of terrifying creatures. With its massive screens and intense sound design, Kong is one of the more cinematic experiences at Universal. It’s stepping out for some scheduled maintenance, but don’t worry—it’s expected to reopen before the end of the month.
2. Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls
Islands of Adventure
Closed October 6–31, 2025
This wild flume ride features hilarious cartoon theming and a big drop that leaves riders soaked. It’s always a go-to on hot Florida days, but it’ll be closed for touch-ups in October. These water rides often undergo refurbishments during the cooler months, and this year is no exception.
3. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Islands of Adventure
Closed November 3–16, 2025
Housed inside Hogwarts Castle, this fan-favorite combines physical sets and simulator-style movement. If you’re planning a Harry Potter-focused visit in early November, note that this key attraction won’t be running—but the rest of Hogsmeade will remain open, including Hagrid’s and Flight of the Hippogriff.
Volcano Bay’s Extended Seasonal Pause
Universal Volcano Bay
October 26, 2026 – March 24, 2027 (or earlier)
Volcano Bay typically closes on select days in winter, but in 2026, it’s entering a much longer seasonal closure. Whether it’s for upgrades or general upkeep, this extended break means water park lovers will need to wait until at least spring 2027 for it to reopen.
Major Ride Retirement: Goodbye, Rip Ride Rockit
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
Universal Studios Florida
Permanently closing August 18, 2025
It’s official—Rip Ride Rockit is closing for good. With its towering lift hill and personal music selection, this was one of the most unique coasters around. Universal is clearing the way for a “new experience,” though they’ve yet to spill the details. If you love this ride, make sure to visit before mid-August.
Plan Smart, Ride Smart
Attractions come and go, but timing is everything. If one of these rides is high on your priority list, make sure to visit before the doors close—or be ready to adjust your itinerary. With all these changes, a little extra planning can make a big difference.
