Shocking Incident at Volcano Bay: Guest Allegedly Assaults Universal Employee With a Weapon

Here's What Happened

Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay, known for its thrilling water attractions and tropical paradise vibes, is the last place one would expect an act of violence.

But amid the crashing waves and carefree vacationers, one moment of chaos disrupted the peaceful retreat—a shocking act of aggression that left a park employee injured.

A Sudden Attack in Paradise at Universal

Guests visit this water park, part of the sprawling Universal Orlando Resort, to escape reality. Towering over the park is Krakatau, a 200-foot artificial volcano, which serves as the backdrop for high-speed slides, a massive wave pool, and a lazy river. However, for one employee, the day took a sudden and painful turn when an unexpected attack shattered the typical joy of the park.

But what led to such an unsettling moment? Why would someone turn a place of relaxation into a scene of violence?

According to an arrest affidavit, Orlando Police Department officers were dispatched to a security room at Universal’s Volcano Bay on Thursday in response to a reported battery.

Police Identify and Arrest the Suspect

Andrew Carson, a park employee, described a startling encounter that left him in pain. Carson said he was working when he suddenly heard someone yell out, “Hey!” Before he could react, something struck him in the back with force. The object? A rock. The assailant? A woman who, at the time, was an unknown guest.

Carson suffered injuries from the attack, though the extent of his condition remains unclear. What’s certain is that the incident was severe enough to prompt an immediate response from Universal’s security team and local law enforcement.

The suspect in question has been identified as 28-year-old Raedean Andrews from Michigan. Officers located Andrews at Volcano Bay and took her into custody, charging her with aggravated battery.

What This Means for Theme Park Safety

At this time, authorities have not provided a motive for the attack. It remains unclear whether this was a targeted assault or a random act of aggression. The arrest affidavit does not indicate whether Andrews knew Carson or had any prior interactions with him.

What could have prompted such an outburst? Was it an argument? A misunderstanding? Or was there something more concerning at play?

Incidents like this raise questions about theme park security and guest behavior. While theme parks like Universal Orlando Resort employ extensive security measures, unexpected acts of aggression remain a concern. With thousands of guests passing through the gates daily, ensuring safety is a complex task.

Universal Remains Safe for Guests Despite This Incident

Universal and other major theme parks operate under strict security protocols, including bag checks, on-site law enforcement, and surveillance. However, altercations, both minor and major, occasionally make headlines. The question remains—should more be done to prevent violent outbursts within the parks?

For now, the case against Andrews moves forward, leaving many to wonder what truly happened in the moments leading up to the attack. Meanwhile, Universal Orlando continues to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for its guests, though this latest incident serves as a stark reminder that even paradise isn’t immune to moments of unexpected chaos.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
