Big changes are sweeping through Walt Disney World—and if you haven’t visited recently, you may be shocked to learn that six classic attractions have been permanently shut down. We’re not talking about temporary closures for updates or overlays. We’re talking full-on retirements, with names erased from Disney maps and entire themed areas making way for new lands.
Here are the six Disney attractions that just got the boot—and what you’ll never experience again.
1. The Boneyard (Animal Kingdom)
After nearly three decades of sandy slides and foam fossil digs, The Boneyard is officially closing on September 1, 2025. This beloved playground in DinoLand U.S.A. was a go-to spot for young kids—and a haven for tired parents. It’s being cleared to make room for a Tropical Americas-themed play area. But the name “The Boneyard” won’t be coming along for the ride.
2. DINOSAUR (Animal Kingdom)
You still have a little time left, but not much. DINOSAUR will stay open through 2025 before being transformed into a brand-new Indiana Jones thrill ride. Soon, Dr. Seeker and the wild Time Rover journey will be extinct—both in theme and in name.
3. Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama (Animal Kingdom)
Already gone. The carnival-style mini-land, including TriceraTop Spin and all the Fossil Fun Games, officially closed back in January 2025. It had its critics, but it also had a charming kitschy vibe that’s now just a memory.
4. Tom Sawyer Island (Magic Kingdom)
Come July 7, 2025, the rustic adventure playground that guests explored by raft will vanish. The entire area is being flattened to make room for a Cars-themed land called Piston Peak National Park. If you loved crossing rope bridges or hunting for paintbrushes, it’s time to say goodbye.
5. Liberty Square Riverboat (Magic Kingdom)
The Liberty Belle will take its final lap around the Rivers of America this summer. It’s sailing into retirement as part of the same land-clearing effort for the upcoming Cars-themed expansion. Slow-moving, peaceful, and packed with nostalgia—this attraction’s loss is a big one for longtime fans.
6. Muppet*Vision 3D (Hollywood Studios)
It’s true. The curtain has officially fallen. Muppet*Vision 3D closed on June 8, 2025, and the theater will soon house a new Monstropolis-themed show. This one stings, especially for fans who grew up with Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo delivering timeless laughs and chaos in 3D.
What’s Next?
These six closures are tied to some of the most ambitious expansions Disney World has taken on in years—Tropical Americas, Piston Peak, and Monstropolis. But with every fresh start comes the end of something beloved. These ride titles? They’re not coming back.
So if you’re planning your next Disney trip, prepare yourself. It’s not just new rides you’ll be seeing—it’s a whole new park experience.
