Tomorrowland Attraction Closed After Reported Power Failure at Disney World

Magic Kingdom is one of those places where you expect everything to run like, well, magic. It’s the most-visited theme park in the world, and for good reason. With lands themed around adventure, fantasy, and the future, it’s where dreams come true daily.

One of the areas that embodies Disney’s vision of tomorrow is, fittingly, Tomorrowland. It’s home to some of the park’s most thrilling attractions, like Space Mountain, and some of the most nostalgic, like the PeopleMover.

Tomorrowland Speedway has been around for decades, letting kids (and kids at heart) get behind the wheel and feel like a race car driver. It’s not the most futuristic ride in the land, but it’s a classic. And for the past few years, Disney has offered an extra little souvenir for those who want to make the experience even more official—personalized Tomorrowland Speedway driver’s licenses.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping to grab one of these fun keepsakes, you’re out of luck for now. Due to a power failure backstage, the driver’s license kiosks are temporarily unavailable.

What Happened in Tomorrowland?

The driver’s license kiosks, which were first introduced in 2017, are located near the stroller parking area at Tomorrowland Speedway. Guests could enter the booth, follow the prompts on the screen, and snap a photo to create their own official Tomorrowland Speedway license. The printed card was a fun (and sometimes hilarious) reminder of a Disney trip, especially for little ones excited to “drive” for the first time. The digital version was also linked to guests’ My Disney Experience PhotoPass accounts.

But now, thanks to a power outage affecting the system, the kiosks are down indefinitely. Cast Members have suggested checking back later in the day, but there’s no guarantee when—or if—they’ll be up and running again.

Will They Come Back?

It’s unclear whether this is a quick fix or something that might take a while. Given that the main Tomorrowland Speedway attraction is still running, this seems to be an isolated issue with the kiosks rather than something affecting the entire ride.

If they don’t return, it wouldn’t be the first time Disney has quietly removed a smaller experience without much notice. But for now, we’ll keep an eye on it and update when we hear more.

In the meantime, if you were hoping to get a Disney driver’s license, there’s always Autopia at Disneyland… unless they decide to pull the plug on that too.
