Disney World Faces Growing Backlash as PeopleMover Problem Stretches Into Fifth Day
The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover has quietly become the center of a growing conversation among Walt Disney World fans, and it has nothing to do with the ride itself.
Instead, guests are focusing on the attraction’s loading area, where one piece of equipment has reportedly remained out of service for nearly five days. While the attraction continues operating as normal, visitors boarding the ride have noticed the uphill speed ramp isn’t moving, forcing everyone to walk to the loading platform.
For first-time guests, it may not seem like a major deal. For longtime Disney fans, though, it’s one of those details that’s hard to overlook.
The PeopleMover has always been known for its smooth, continuous operation. From the moment guests step onto the moving ramps until they return to the unload station, nearly every part of the experience is designed to keep people flowing without interruption.
Now, that rhythm has been interrupted.
According to a guest who shared the situation online, the downward speed ramp remains operational while the upward ramp has been out of service for several consecutive days. Although the attraction hasn’t closed and Disney hasn’t commented on the issue, the length of the outage has caught the attention of frequent visitors.

The PeopleMover occupies a unique place in Magic Kingdom.
It isn’t the park’s newest attraction or its biggest thrill ride, yet many Disney fans consider it an essential stop every trip. The elevated tour through Tomorrowland offers views of Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, and TRON Lightcycle / Run while providing one of the most relaxing rides in the park.
During the hottest part of the day, it’s also one of the easiest ways to escape the Florida sun without committing to a lengthy queue.
That’s one reason this relatively minor maintenance issue has generated discussion.
Disney attractions experience technical problems from time to time, but most are either repaired quickly or require temporary closures. This situation is a little different because the ride itself continues welcoming guests.
Everything functions as expected once riders board. The only noticeable difference comes before the attraction even begins.
The timing has also made the issue more noticeable.
Tomorrowland has already seen plenty of changes this year, including the closure of Carousel of Progress for a lengthy refurbishment. Rumors surrounding Space Mountain’s future continue circulating as well, putting additional attention on the land and its attractions.
As a result, regular visitors seem especially aware of anything unusual happening around Tomorrowland.
For now, guests can still enjoy everything the PeopleMover is famous for. The attraction continues gliding above Tomorrowland just as it always has, giving riders a peaceful break from the crowds below.
The only difference is that boarding requires a few extra steps until Disney restores the speed ramp to full operation.
