Disney World’s water park handoff is officially on the calendar. On January 27, 2027, Blizzard Beach will close for seasonal refurbishment, and Typhoon Lagoon will reopen the same day.

The news arrives via WDWMagic, which shared Disney’s confirmation: “Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will reopen on January 27, 2027.”
Typhoon Lagoon shut down completely on September 9, 2026. Its final operating day was Tuesday, September 8. At the time, Walt Disney World Resort offered no timeline for a return and pointed guests to Blizzard Beach instead, leaving the snow-themed park as the resort’s lone water park option through fall and early winter.
Disney has kept quiet about what crews tackled during the closure. Returning guests will find the park’s familiar centerpiece, Mount Mayday, along with its signature storm-battered theming. Attractions coming back online include:
- Humunga Kowabunga
- Crush ’n’ Gusher
- Miss Adventure Falls
- Castaway Creek
- The Storm Slides
- Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

For years, Disney has run one water park through the cooler season while the other undergoes maintenance. That rhythm changed in summer 2025, when Disney opened both parks at once from May to September. It happened again in 2026, backed by the Cool KIDS’ SUMMER promotion from May 26 through September 8.
Disney Resort hotel guests got a bonus during the event, with free admission to either water park on their check-in day. A year earlier, the arrival-day perk had been available year-round, though only at whichever water park happened to be open. Disney narrowed it to the Cool KIDS’ SUMMER period in 2026, meaning guests checking in on or after September 9 no longer received same-day Blizzard Beach admission. There’s no word yet on whether the promotion will be back in 2027.
Blizzard Beach has been holding down the fort since September, and its refurbishment begins January 27, 2027. Disney hasn’t revealed when it will reopen. Both water parks could operate side by side again by summer 2027, following this year’s lead, though nothing has been confirmed.

Before January 27, Blizzard Beach is the only water park in operation. From that date forward, Typhoon Lagoon takes over. Guests with a strong preference should time their visit accordingly and confirm hours through Disney’s official operating calendar, as Central Florida cold fronts can trigger weather closures with little notice.
